A fragmented reminiscence of a rural fair scene featuring a buggy, oats and hay, nags with spavin and heaves, a snow covered cutter, and a crowd in colorful attire. The narrator calls time backward as Tootsie MecHootsie and Sir Thomas Katt ride through a nostalgic grand stand atmosphere with the old Dobbin and lines of lovers’ lane.
The local F. F. A. chapter held a Monday meeting as part of a scrap iron campaign to support the present defense program. Boys collect scrap, paid modestly, with John Veach of International Harvester coordinating the effort. Farmers are urged to notify the chapter or Veach of scrap metal availability and to arrange sheep dipping schedules to save travel and tires for the crew.
The menu lists meat loaf mashed potatoes deviled eggs barbecue beans carrot sticks banana apple salad bread butter pickles and cherry dessert with coffee for the Wednesday meal service.
Taylor Township Board will meet Monday at 9:00 p m to discuss township business. Relph Turner and his wife arrived last week from Buckeye Missouri to settle on their home one mile west of town. Jay Argo and his wife purchased the William Haver farm west of the former site.
The Entire Citizens ticket was reelected as mayor and council, in the town election held on the first Monday with the lightest turnout in years. Votes show D. K. Otelup 118 for mayor. council members Davis 129, Dille 124, Gardener 188, McDonough 111, Veach 113, Caster 80, Dotson 29, Kirkins 47, Hammond 65. treasurer Coulson. assessor Hiatt 165.
A large audience heard York college players perform The Forgotten Man a one act religious drama at United Brethren church Sunday evening. Directed by Charlotte Rozetta Miller, the cast included William White Arlene Johnson Arlina Benson Iria Johnson Lute Allison Levi Huebert and Bruce Herrick, York students. Rev. Mr. Core of York district field manager showed campus pictures before the play. Rev. LeRoy Pullman of the Methodist church attended, leading to the dismissal of their evening services.
Moravia Public Schools students participate in a defense stamp program with class parties during the week of March 16. Students pay ten cents for admission to parties and many buy twenty five cent stamps, receiving stamp books, with sales totaling 49.06 dollars to date across grades.
Robert D. Blue of Eagle Grove, a Republican nomination candidate for lieutenant governor, visited Moravia Tuesday afternoon. Blue served as Speaker of the House in the last legislature session.
Bernadine Bishop daughter of Mr and Mrs D E Bishop has been chosen to sing with the Par song college Philharmonic society in the special pre Easter musical program Seven Last Words of Christ in Fairfield this Wednesday evening.
Mr and Mrs R Pentington announce the engagement of their daughter Doris Marie to Herbert T Boblenz son of Mr and Mrs L C Boblenz He is an Easter Sunday event and upcoming marriage plans are noted in the notice
Moravia post office reports defense bond and stamp purchases remained strong through January February and into March. There was steady demand for bonds with some sizable amounts, and only a couple of days showed little or no activity at the bond and stamp window.
Imogene Hiatt reports Moravia High to host a Junior Senior party in the gym on April 3 changing the banquet to a garden themed party with light refreshments in school colors old rose and green. Juniors from the sophomore class will staff as waiters and waitresses in pink and white pinafores with white blouses, and male servers in blue jeans and white shirts. Entertainment includes welcome by Wayne Allen, response by Wayne Hiatt, music requests, dancing, and car games. about 120 attendees including faculty are expected. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Minnes were in Des Moines Sunday.
Mrs Lea Johrygon received a letter and card Monday from her son Pvt Claus Gerald Eugene Hauk now in North Ireland with American forces. He said they landed in Ireland on March 5 after a rough voyage. Gerald is with a medical unit and has served about a year after training at Glathorne, La last summer and fall.
Announcement from Harry McCrory of Moravia states Naomi McCrory of Ottumwa will marry Charles N. Poney, son of Charles F. and Mrs. Poney of Ottumwa. The wedding is set for June 1 at 8 p.m. in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Miss McCrory is a 1937 Ottumwa High School graduate and works at Newberry's in Ottumwa.
News of the sudden death of Mrs. Sarah Arnold at her son Beryl Arnold’s home east of town around 9 15 p m Tuesday. She was about 82 and had lived in the area most of her life, with many friends mourning her passing. An obituary will be published later.
The Little Corporal Terry Mark Martin arrived Saturday March 28 to help his brother Larry Max Martin and sisters Joyce and Judy care for their mother Laura Jean Oehler Martin while Daddy Corporal Max A. Martin is overseas. Mother and baby are doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Vernie Hiatt returned to Exeter Nebraska on Thursday after attending the death of his sister Mrs. Allen Hiatt.

Numerous performers named including Ruby Johnson, Kenneth Gardner, Doris Rouse, and others. No admission fee noted.
Mrs Cynthia Locke and Frank Ademeit of Albia wed at 6 45 p m Wednesday March 26 in Unionville Missouri. Justice Fowler performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of family members and a reception followed at the Renmark home with 88 guests including Clyde Locke Edward Stocker Kenneth Coghlan and more. The couple will reside in Albia for now.
Another Moravian is listed among the men employed at the Vallejo California navy yard. Virgil Burns, son of Mr and Mrs Wm Burns of Moravia, works there as a jointer. Moravia boys reportedly toil seven days a week. Burns owns a fruit ranch near Modesto Geluc where he has been for some time.
The Legion and Auxiliary cooperative supper and social evening has been moved to April 9. Supper will be served at about 7 30.
Obituary details the life of Mrs. Curg McCoy Jennie Abernathy born 1865 near Blakesburg. She lived in Monroe and Appanoose counties, married Lycurgus McCoy in Ottumwa 1898, died 1942 in Albia. Survived by two children Max and Clelia, a stepson, sister Nancy Peck, and many friends. Funeral at Moravia United Brotherhood church conducted by Rev. Frank Smith. Burial in Blakesburg cemetery.
The Moravia band and stamp committee plans a patriotic rally at the school gymnasium on April 18 evening. Music by the school band, pledge explanation for bands and stamps, and a keynote address by an out of town speaker are slated. No pledges at the meeting. canvass starts next day. Dr D K Orelup heads the speakers and information committee. Watch for further announcements.
Captain Clyde Wilson of Luke Field near Phoenix spent a few hours in Moravia early this week en route from Washington to resume duties at Luke Field. He will undergo six weeks of schooling with the intelligence division.
Moravia hosts its annual Play Fest April 1 and 2 in the high school gym with six invited schools Exline Unionville Udell and Moulton performing on Wednesday and Cincinnati Numa Moravia and possibly another on Thursday. Oravia presents Indian Summer by Betty Brydon Breecher with a cast including Lois Argo and Wilma Boardman. No awards. judge B Greeson to offer critiques. Ravings go to Drake University Drama Festival. Adults 30 cents. high school students 16 cents plus tax for both nights.
Leo Caster son of Mr and Mrs E C Caster has been called to duty and is now stationed at Great Lakes Training Station after enlisting in the navy recently.
The W S C S of the Methodist church met at Mrs. Lester Brain's home last Wednesday afternoon March 25. Mrs. Gerald Morgan led devotions on He Went About Healing All Manner of Sickness and Mrs. Ww. L. Palmer directed the program.

W Whisler died Sunday morning of a heart attack at his farm home near Unionville. He was born July 14 1870 the son of Samuel and Miranda Igler. He married Frankie Morrison Sept 4 1890 and they celebrated their golden anniversary in 1940. Eleven children were born to the union, with several surviving including Emma Stark Udell Ella McCoy Albia Wilbur Ottumwa Howard Moravia Walter Jr. Williamsburg Ada Whisler Rolfe Essie Unionville Bertha Laughlin Dows and Lloyd Russell. He leaves two sisters, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial was at Fairview cemetery after service at Fairview Church of the Brethren conducted by Rev Jas A Wilson and Rev Orlando Ogden. He had been in failing health for some time and was hospitalized in Centerville prior to death.
Pvt Richard J Burton son of Mr and Mrs Curtis Burton Moravia Iowa will graduate April 8 from the large Air Corps Technical School at Keesler Field Mississippi after a 19 week course. His class will be dispersed among Army Air Forces units to service and maintain planes. The curriculum covers aircraft maintenance fundamentals structures hydraulics propellers instruments engines electrical systems fuel systems engine operation and inspection of single and multi motor aircraft.
Richard Lower of Rockford TI is listed among those going all-out for defense. He has used his life savings to buy bonds and buys stamps regularly with his own money. Mr. and Mrs. K C Barghahn and daughter Linda Lou of Grinnell came for Easter vacation with Mrs. Barghahn's mother, Mrs. Louise Oebler.
The church list includes Church School at 10:00 a.m. with Carl VanZante as superintendent, Worship at 10:60 a.m., Evening Service at 6:30 p.m., Christian Endeavor at 7:30 p.m., and a Thursday prayer meeting at 7:30 p.m. Choir practice is scheduled for Friday evening at the parsonage.
The Moravia and Wesley Chapel churches announce Easter worship and church school sessions led by ministers Leroy Pullman and Virgil Dooley. A Fourth Quarterly Conference with Communion is scheduled, inviting officials and parishioners to attend and consider World Service offerings during Easter services.
