McFatridge Enters Race for State Representative

Moravia real estate and insurance man M. McFatridge announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for state representative from Appanoose County. A longtime Moravia resident, he has served as mayor and in several local offices, and is viewed as well qualified. The Union reports no opposition yet in the June primary, with Edmund Hanson seeking the Republican nomination and possible further candidates eyed.

Mrs Herbert Hall of Upland Dies After Illness

Relatives and friends mourn the death of Mildred Hall, wife of Herbert Hall, at age ? in Upland California after a several days illness with pneumonia. She was the daughter of C. C. Smith of near Moravia and mother of six children Harold Charles Dorothy Sheldon Doris and Arthur. Funeral services were held in California with a brief service at her parents home in Moravia. Reverend Chas L Ellis officiated and the North Plains singers performed two songs.

Barker Poultry Engineer Injured in Bus Crash Near Peru

Dale Schreiner, electrical engineer for Barker Poultry Equipment of Ottumwa and son of J H Schreiner of Moravia, was hurt when a bus spilled off a dirt road near Peru Indiana after being forced off by a car losing control. He suffered a bad hip cut and was taken home to Moravia from hospital.

Community's Oldest Resident Dies at 101 in Moravia

Benjamin W. Cook, Iowa’s likely oldest resident and a veteran gold prospector born August 27, 1884, died at his nephew J. J. Allem’s home north of Moravia after a long life of mining, farming, and wanderings across Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, and Montana. Funeral services held at Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Charles L. Ellis officiating.
