Moravia real estate and insurance man M. McFatridge announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for state representative from Appanoose County. A longtime Moravia resident, he has served as mayor and in several local offices, and is viewed as well qualified. The Union reports no opposition yet in the June primary, with Edmund Hanson seeking the Republican nomination and possible further candidates eyed.
The annual Odd Fellow Egg Roast is scheduled for Tuesday evening April 7. Members of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs with families are invited and asked to bring eggs.
A local notice warns that individuals who were at the junk ditch last Sunday afternoon entered a residence, searched clothing, and took a watch, knife, and change. The writer, H. N. Utterback, states the suspects are known and demand return by Friday or face prosecution.
Mr. Ayr Frank Selby has moved his main residence to Frank Moravis. He plans to leave within days to live with his brother Cogs Main in Omwe Town. Friends regret his departure from the community.

Relatives and friends mourn the death of Mildred Hall, wife of Herbert Hall, at age ? in Upland California after a several days illness with pneumonia. She was the daughter of C. C. Smith of near Moravia and mother of six children Harold Charles Dorothy Sheldon Doris and Arthur. Funeral services were held in California with a brief service at her parents home in Moravia. Reverend Chas L Ellis officiated and the North Plains singers performed two songs.
News reaches Kansas City of the serious pneumonia illness of Clarence Main. He is confined to a Kan Sat pommel. His mother Biss Main and Archie Main Albia left Monday to be with him.
The report notes that Al and Mrs. Francis are improving after two weeks of illness. Mrs. Chas. Coffin hosted the 20th Century club meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. and Mrs. B. G. Hawking of Hedrick Iowa visited Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson. Visitors attended Church on Sunday at Lloyd Johnson’s in Adbig. Mrs. Joe Lynn returned Sunday from a several week visit with her daughter Mia. Edd Hilliard and family reside in Fairfield.

The Union announces a Townsend Club gathering at the Community Building Friday evening, April ___, with a good speaker expected to address attendees.
Dale Schreiner, electrical engineer for Barker Poultry Equipment of Ottumwa and son of J H Schreiner of Moravia, was hurt when a bus spilled off a dirt road near Peru Indiana after being forced off by a car losing control. He suffered a bad hip cut and was taken home to Moravia from hospital.
Rev. Herman Smith has been called from Harmon Methodist church to serve at Mitchellville Iowa within days. He is brother of the editor and son in law of Mr and Mrs J W Whicker and was formerly at Roasnor. He will complete his Evanston Illinois school work this summer under special arrangement.
Mrs. Margaret Gormley of Mt. Vernon Iowa visiting with sister Mrs Rev F C Scott and family. She just returned from Cumberland Maryland scene of the flood disaster in the east. She says newspaper reports do not do it justice and the disaster is far worse than any account she has read.
Iconium M E Aid Division No. 5 hosted a Thursday Easter luncheon with 62 people served. Officers listed, special guests named, and plans set to continue all-day meetings each Thursday in April. Also notes return from Arizona and local church activities led by J W Stine.
Benjamin W. Cook, Iowa’s likely oldest resident and a veteran gold prospector born August 27, 1884, died at his nephew J. J. Allem’s home north of Moravia after a long life of mining, farming, and wanderings across Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, and Montana. Funeral services held at Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Charles L. Ellis officiating.
L. H. Beery a Standard Oil agent won the Moravia mayoral race by 106 to 100 over C. E. Winsler. In the council race P. D. Schreiner W. H. Morgan G. B. Winsler Albert Veach and H. G. Firkin were elected. C. C. Coulson reelected treasurer and Sam Hudgens assessor. 207 ballots cast. Schreiner Winsler Firkin won council seats. year two year terms.
