Miss Criptoen Speers and Miss Gertrude Hadley of Plainfield were Thursday guests of Miss Katherine Fergurson. The informal visit highlighted local social ties and community connections in Plainfield.

Geo W Harper has sold his saw mill to J E Prewitt of Cartersburg. The mill will be moved to Cartersburg in about two weeks to replace the mill destroyed by fire last week. Harper has run the mill for nearly twenty five years, twelve at Hall and eleven here. His future plans remain undecided.
The State utilities commission ruled Mooresville Utilities Co. must continue furnishing steam heat to longtime customers after the company notified patrons it would stop supplying heat.
Interurban line workers walked out for higher pay last Saturday and the strike spread across the state. Rail cars continue to run as section men patrol at night guarding the wires against damage.
Mr and Mrs F E Carlisle hosted a Friday dinner in honor of T E Lawrence visiting from Newellton Louisiana for a few weeks. Guests included Mrs Mary Thurman and Mr and Mrs T B Lawrence. Dorcas Society plans clothing drive September 19 in M E church basement for winter needs. Donations via phone pickup available. Mr and Mrs John York hosted a Sunday gathering with several families and neighbors in attendance.
For the next six months the library will open at 6 30 evening hours and close at 8 30 instead of 7 00 to 9 00.
Funeral services for Mr Griffith Wright who died at his home on the Plainfield road Wednesday evening were held at the Friends church here Friday and largely attended. Rev E J Carter of Plainfield preached from the text chosen by the deceased. Mrs Ruth Guyer read the obituary and assisted in the service. The interment was at Bethel near where Mr Wright spent most of his life. He came with his parents from Williamsport Ohio as a small boy. He had birthright membership in the Friends church and was a recorded minister for several years with evangelistic work among the poor. His first wife was Mahala Reynolds of Bloomingdale and two children survive. A bout nine years ago he married Arminta Morgan who survives him.
Miss Mary Sims visited weekend host Miss Katherine Ergurson while H G S girls held a picnic for Katherine Hughes. Mary Sims Edna Rusie honored guests. A family reunion at Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bain home near Stop 10 drew about thirty five people and included Mrs. Lou Bain guest of honor. Attendees included Mrs. Jane McCreary and Mrs. Etta Bain. A bountiful noon dinner followed.

A new Republican state paper, the Indiana State Journal, founded by Geo. B. Lockwood, will be a weekly ten page seven column publication with editorials, news, correspondence, Washington notes, and cartoons. It aims to keep Republicans informed as the party rises, priced at $1 a year, with a combined offer for both papers at $1.50 for one year.
The Times explains it cannot mail to subscribers owing over a year at pound postage. To keep the pound rate, it must drop names from the subscription list or lose the privilege.
