Parents and friends attended a formal commencement where the high school provided the program. Students spoke on topics such as The School as a Social Center and Abraham Lincoln while Miss Norris Britton delivered Clara Barton and The Red Cross and Clifford Furnas spoke as valedictorian.
About two hundred alumni gathered Saturday evening in the K P hall for an alumni reunion. The high school orchestra provided music and a burlesque commencement and senior play were staged by alumni members. The girls chorus drew attention and Miss Carrie Scott read the Honor Roll of 22 service names. Mrs Horace Townsend led the committees and about 339 will be donated to the Red Cross.
An auction-like notice from Charles Shrake lists tomatoes cabbages sweet potatoes and other plants for sale on East Harrison Street. A separate personal inquiry from W W Wilson of Louissile Kentucky requests a car at a location in Indianapolis area after a missed 4 o clock departure. Community canning plans announced with meetings at library hall Saturday May 18 at 8 PM and a house warming Tuesday May 21 at 334 West Main Street. Citizens urged to donate time and gifts to stockpile food and conserve for Red Cross service.

Mr and Mrs Frank Steets and others enjoyed a picnic supper at Day s new bunya net Bethany Park on Wednesday evening. They traveled to Martinsville to attend Mrs Daisy Barr s meeting held in the Methodist church.

Paul Taylor a university student from Champaign Alabama came home for the high school commencement last Friday and returned to campus Monday morning. His brother Albert joined him for a short visit. Ira Tally, in training near Charlotte North Carolina, underwent kidney stone surgery Saturday morning after a month in hospital, with hopeful reports. Grace E. Boling of Indianapolis will lead the Epworth League service next Sunday night at Battle Ground Institute night. service begins at 7:15 and all leaguers are urged to attend. Mrs Albert Cooper hosted a dinner for school friends including Fred Lindley of Los Angeles, Maud Lindley’s friends, and other guests from nearby towns.

The U S Department of Agriculture urges home gardeners to start now, focusing on vegetables that store or can well, with Brown and neighboring towns asked to increase production as part of the national effort.

Miss Lillian Sampler was brought Thursday morning from near Canfordsville to the home of her half brother Walter Leonard. She had been living with Mr. and Mrs. Layman, Mrs. H. M. Dixon's parents, and had a severe hemorrhage several days earlier. Dr. W. L. Thompson attended Sunday finding her in serious condition. Mrs. Layman accompanied her and is visiting Mrs. H. M.
