Theodore Jessee eldest son of Rev. and Mrs. D. W. Jesse of this place died at 4:24 a.m. Wednesday after a two week decline from pneumonia. Born December 31, 187?, in Boone County Indiana he studied locally and at the university. He worked with W. H. Wallin, studied optometry in Chicago and headed the Vail Jewelry department. He married Alt cai Wineiow on June 17, 1897 and leaves five children and two brothers and three sisters. He served as superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School for fifteen years building it from a small church to a substantial organization. His death closes a notable local career in education church work and business.
The Library rooms hosted an evening of vocal and instrumental music and readings by Misses Verna Weidner Alice Ballard Margaret Thornberry and Miriam Park. The event drew a good audience and raised several dollars for the Red Cross treasury.
A damaging windstorm struck Saturday, blowing down the smoke stack of the Public Service plant causing air shutdown until evening. The old school building suffered heavy damage with carpenters at work Sunday and repairs completed by Wednesday. The Red Cross seeks notices from families about service departures, chaired by Mrs. Geo. I. Reeves with L. E. Bellard assisting.
The Red Cross committee thanks I C O S lodge members for donating sewing rooms above C L Merriman's east room for dressings. Two sewing machines have been donated and a long table is desired. Volunteers are asked to deliver sewing garments and completed pieces to Mrs. Taggart promptly before the next shipment.
