Local tidbits report Mrs. C L Hallam ill this week and numerous notices on housing rooms for rent and barn space. Community events include a Fortnightly gathering, country store promotions, a Pythian Sisters social, and a Woman’s Club market set for March 13. Also listed are sales of wheat straw and poultry feed products from Mooresville area merchants.
The Carlisle high school basketball team, led by Carlisle, lost to Martinsville 20 to 17 after a close second half. The squad opened against Paoli at 7 30 and then faced Martinsville, with Carlisle scoring all 17 points. Lineup included Carlisle Milhon Stokesberry Thornberry Coland and Taylor as sub.
John Underwood Jr hosted a West Thirteenth Street reception after the basketball final Saturday night. Twenty five young men from Switc City Mooresville and the Bloomington winning team attended, enjoying sandwiches fruit salad cake candy almonds and hot chocolate in a pleasant social evening.
Mrs. Chester Holaday and Mrs. Carl White host a pink and green themed gathering. Funeral for Mrs. Joyner at Friends church noted along with family survivors. A W H M Tea and Amite Club banquets described. Home building tips emphasize design, safety, and durability with guidance from Comer & Scearce Co.
The clubs music and art department held a Monday meeting with a quartet including Mrs A C Payne Mrs O P Macy Mrs Harry Hadley and Miss Helen Hadley performing pieces such as A Petfed Car and Stars of a Summer Night. Mrs Harry Hadley read a paper on A Few Things of Interest to the Average Music Lover and Mrs Payne sang Spring and Memory. Mrs Chas Merriman contributed two piano numbers. Guests included Mrs Romine Mrs W F Hadley and Mrs W H Williams. Next Monday features the annual business meeting and officer election.
The Specials hosted a three course banquet at Moore's restaurant on March 16 after a successful Monrovia game. They then attended a Dreamland Theater show, and the team earned 60 percent of the ten dollar house to cover costs. The club remains undefeated this season.
