Mooresville updates include visits from Indianapolis and Brooklyn residents, millinery openings by Lyon and Lyon, a Grand Master visit, Bible class and Parent-Teacher Association activities, theater shows at Dreamland, and a busy calendar of clubs, auctions, and incu bator and poultry supplies on display.
The Friends church Christian Endeavors hosted a social evening with a debate on whether man has done more for the world than woman. Speakers H. V. Hadley and Allen Reynolds argued affirmative while Viola York and 14a Snfitherman argued negative. The group invites all young people to future gatherings and Sunday meetings.
About fifty ladies attended a Friday gathering at Mrs. E. W. Day’s home. Mrs. Harry Hadley played piano as readings were given by Miss Francis Berk with Clifton Furnas on piano. Furnas performed folk songs and other numbers. Red decor dominated the rooms with refreshments served. Out of town guests included Mrs. Alvin Munson and Mrs. A. B. Wiley of Indianapolis.
Returns from the primary Tuesday are slow with final results expected today. Indications favor Goodrich for governor and Adair for the Democrats, with New and Kern leading the Senate race. Bland likely wins the congress nomination in this district, while Cullop or Hunt may secure the Democratic nod. Wm. C. Deck appears as the Democratic candidate for joint state senator. Roscoe Farmer is likely the Republican nominee for sheriff and Dobbs the Democrat for commissioner of the third district.
Pocahontas Council hosts a Friday evening tax social on March 17 at 7 50 p m at the Red Men s wigwam to raise funds for a new piano player. All are invited to attend and enjoy a night with the Indians.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Christian church asks for a carload of old newspapers and magazines to be sold for church funds. Call phone No. 8 if you have any to donate.
The Music and Art department of the Woman's Club met Monday afternoon. Mrs. H. V. Johnson delivered a splendid paper on Raphael and Canaletto.
The Ladies' Aid of the Christian church will host a chicken supper and bazaar in the library assembly room on Saturday, March 18. Proceeds support church activities.
The Aid Society of the M E church announces a market and bazaar to be held on the Saturday before Easter, April 22. Rumors say Mooresville may host an airdome moving picture show this summer. A party stayed in town early this week seeking a location and took options on two sites. The Missionary and Aid Societies of all churches have agreed on a common meeting day schedule with Foreign Missionary Societies meeting first Wednesday, Home Missionary Societies the fourth Wednesday, and Aid Societies the second Wednesday each month.
The town board met in regular session Wednesday evening. The monthly bills were allowed and routine business transacted. A R Cooper was granted permission to install a sewer on west Main Street. An extension of the cement sidewalk on north Indiana Street was discussed along with more water mains in the northeast and on South Street.
Miss Edith Park held a miscellan eous shower at Mrs Park Shepherds home east of town on Saturday. The event welcomed all the girls from her class and other friends who received many useful gifts and enjoyed dainty refreshments.
Lace caps mantles and silk bonnets will be worn by girls who sing at the Old Melodies Concert on March 16 at 8 o clock in Library Hall. The event is under the Bay View Club and admission is 10 cents.
Miss Georgia Hadley of Jasonville visits aunties in the Martinsville region with stops in Indianapolis and Danville. Area events include a Friends church Ladies Aid luncheon and an all day quilting session. Obituaries report the death of a seventeen year old Northern girl and Ina Cooper of Indianapolis, with funeral details and attendees listed.
The Bay View club elected officers for 1916 17 with Mrs. Jesse Wilson as President and Mrs. W A Von Canon as First Vice President. Mrs Will Farmer was chosen Second Vice, Mrs Chester Holaday Secretary, Mrs J W Miles Assistant Secretary, and Mrs Carl White Treasurer.
