The Lincoln Chautauqua opened Tuesday for six days amid farmers harvest and threatening weather, yet attendance is good. Community cooperation with guarantors supports ticket sales and every program is excellent. Authorities hope Saturday and Sunday will be banner days, with the pageant America Yesterday and Today by local youth promising an attractive feature.
About one hundred children gathered on the Friends church campus Monday evening for a Chautauqua ticket hunt. Four tickets were hidden and winners included Bonita Conduitt Frances Marine Arthur Hadley and Harlon Hadley. Girls Lenore Brackney and Freda Scruggs and Morris Macy won the races. The children marched up town cheering for the Chautauqua.

For sale two livestock items including a spotted four year old pory and a three year old red cow. William Swope bought a Monro touring car from Richardson Bros. H B Taylor of Banta visited relatives this week. Clover hay wanted two or three tons of good clover or alfalfa. Scott Poe recently worked at Spencer and visited Sunday. Mrs Mary Farlow of Peal visited her nephew Dr W L Thompson and wife. Mr and Mrs Price Roberts Quincy formerly of this place have a 9 lb boy Arthur Lee Roberts. Roscoe Farmer of Martinsville called on friends and checked his farm nearby.
A long column of community items notes visitors from Indianapolis and Greenfield, births, illnesses, sales ads, a homecoming picnic, a fatal auto crash near Centerton, a spinal meningitis case, church events and a Bible School assembly schedule for Western Yearly Meeting at the Friends church.

Mrs Geo Keller and Mrs P G Culbertson hosted a rural club picnic near Fairfield church. The husbands arrived as guests for supper surprising the ladies. Guests included Horace Hadley George Reeves Charles Merriman Bert Cooper Claude Watson Edith Hadley Kathryn Ballard Walter Keller and P G Culbertson. Hostesses served an elaborate two course supper.

William H. Bowman a Bethel resident since the 1850s died at his daughter Zelpha Pierson’s Valley Mills home Friday July 20 at age 75. He served in the 21st Regiment and later the First Indiana Heavy Artillery during the Civil War and is survived by his wife Frances Starbuck. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm conducted by G R Scruggs with burial at Mooresville cemetery. Masonic rites observed.
Nettie R. Macy urges Red Cross Chapter members and interested local residents to attend a called meeting at Library Hall on Tuesday July 31 at 8 PM to decide the chapter's contributions to the war effort and support troops overseas.
A three act comedy titled Mrs. Tubbs of Shantytown will be staged at the Town Park pavilion on August 14 at 8 o'clock. The show, long discussed, will be new to the town and feature a lively cast with the first rehearsal set for next week.
Wheat threshing continues as the crop surpasses expectations in both quantity and quality. Reports show 30 to 35 bushels per acre from numerous farmers, including T. H. Greeson with 980 bushels of prime wheat and B. Trogden with 35 bushels per acre. Furnas ice cream noted at the White Star Co.
