Miss Mary Sumner remains bedbound with heart trouble this week. Residents and visitors from Indianapolis frequent the column, including Mrs. Viola Brown and Mrs. Charles Matthews, and Miss Leora Walls returning from Terre Haute. Ogborn takes hospital step to operate, while concrete work expands for O. B. Chandler. Community life features autos, visits, entertainments, and a W. F. M. S. guest meeting led by Rev. Hargrave among others.
The long running old settlers meeting will be held this year at H. B. Mendenhall's grove at the regular time, the second Tuesday in August. The event is the regular meeting and has no connection with another settlers gathering at the town park on the same day.
In the absence of Rev David Hadley the Friends church announces Mrs Hannah Pratt Jessup recently of Texas will fill the pulpit next Sabbath morning. Jessup is well known in the community and has years of ministerial experience.
Epworth league members met last Friday at Edna and Marguerite Sage home. Each member recounted how the nickel given a month ago increased in value. The event yielded ten dollars for missionary work.
Bethany Park hosts a four day music festival by the DePauw University Chorus July 24 to 27 and the Catha Woodland Players perform Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream on Sunday August 10 as special attractions for the Bethany Assembly meeting.
A pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rariden on Tuesday July 15. Miss Althea Rariden wed Mr. Ralph Kelso in a ceremony led by Rev. J. W. McFall. The bride wore white satin as many friends offered congratulations.
A school building was struck by lightning during a severe storm about six on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Henderson saw smoke from the roof, and the fire department extinguished the blaze. The roof and two rooms suffered water damage, with losses estimated at 500 to 1000 dollars, insured.
Citizens met in the council rooms to form a five member committee H C Scearce Dr W A Magenheimer William Swope Willard Passmore and Castor Squires to select a ticket for the town election a meeting is called tonight for final approval or revision of the ticket.
The Keller family reunites at the old homestead now occupied by Oliver Keller. Mrs Christine Keller joins her children George Charles Fritz Louis Keller and daughter in law Mrs Lafe Shepard for a day with relatives from Mooresville Plainfield and Indianapolis. A bountiful noon dinner marked the gathering.
Roy Pierce and Miss Laura Beeler were married last Sunday evening at 6 by Rev. J. W. McFall in a West Harrison street cottage prepared by Pierce. Only immediate families attended. Pierce works for Taggart bakery and Beeler is a well regarded Mooreville young woman. Friends extend best wishes.

The Reporter reports a weekend incident near Indianapolis with a man suffering a severe leg cut and transported for care. Local social news covers dinners, property purchases, farming work, and camping observations.

A historic recipe details small almond cakes using one pound powdered sugar six eggs half a pound almonds half pound flour rosewater whipped egg whites into meringue sugar yolks beaten long and airy then folded with almond paste bake in small tins until done turn out to dry top side up to dry.

In Monrovia the M. E. Sunday school plans an entertainment and lecture at Assembly Hall on Friday evening July 25 to raise funds for church repairs. Local residents and visitors are noted in the day’s social brief, including travels to Belleville and visits with ill neighbors.
