Big Brooklyn Fire consumes Hughes Livery Barn
A major blaze in Brooklyn around nine o clock Monday night destroyed the Hughes Livery Barn and the Ray Underwood garage while the People deposit Bank building was saved. Dozens of structures burned or threatened as residents from Martinsville and Mooresville aided in extinguishing the flames. A midnight rain helped quell the fire and ward off further damage.

About 2 o clock Thursday morning a blaze gutted Robert Harvey vulcanizing shop and Record Roberts poultry house on W. L. Milner property rear lot. No water in mains due to a reservoir flush left by the town board. Fire confined by buckets as lines failed, with some damage to adjacent garage and a cream testing outfit. Origin of the fire is unknown.

Purchases Mill at Clayton Sold to Morgan County Team
The Clayton Milling Co mill and elevator near Clayton have been sold to a Morgan County group forming Home Milling Company. W. Hubbard of Monrovia selected as manager, with plans to operate the Monrovia mill as well. Since June 7 the Clayton mill added a truck dump for motor-truck grain deliveries, first in the county.

Poultry Culling Initiated July 15 Says County Agent
The message urges culling of farm flocks starting July 15 to avoid low prices. Some flocks have already stopped haying and should be culled and sent to market. Culling may repeat in late August under guidance from the Vocational Department of the County Agent.
