Hotel keeper found dead by hanging near Indiana

Wv. D. Richardson a 61 year old hotel keeper on east Harrison street near Indiana died by hanging in the barn behind his hotel early Thursday. He used a new rope and stepladder to reach a beam and his wife found the body about 6:30. Remains to be buried Saturday in Pittsboro Hendricks county.

1220 Automobiles In County Register Up To July 1

Statistics from the Campbell Circular Advertising Co show Morgan county has 1220 automobile registrations up to July 1, 1917, far above last year. George Pratt of Martinsville led the county with the first registration. Elijah Wallace of Stilesville was the last with Buick No. 67131. Indiana total is 167181 with license G7181 as the last.

Friends Church to Lead War Relief Effort in France

The Friends Church of America plans reconstruction and relief in war torn regions. A Civilian Red Cross Unit of 100 men will go to France, followed by a women’s unit, with total annual funding over 200000 dollars. Rev. C. O. Watson declares the church’s mission and public role.

Fourth at Mooresville Observes Independence Day

Mooresville residents celebrated the Fourth with decorated porches from Indiana to Jefferson, Red Cross headquarters at the library, and two vaudeville performances raising about $60 plus over $100 in additional Red Cross donations. Local committees reported strong cooperation and hope for a new era of Independence Day observance.

Missing Man Located and Passport Claim Noted

Lincoln R. Jessup, once of West Newton and later Bloomingdale, disappeared six or seven years after leaving a wife and three daughters. Now in Sidney Australia he has applied for a U S passport through the Consulate General and claims American citizenship, with J W York referenced as proof contact. One daughter lives in Virginia and another in Michigan. two daughters have married since his disappearance.
