The Mooresville and Brown township public library opened January 27 in a 80 by 143 foot Elizabethan style building on the north side of the square. It is brick with stone trim, steam heated and semi indirect lit, with 6000 books, reading and reference rooms, and seating for over 200 in the assembly room. General contractors Charles Ferguson and Frank Martie delivered high quality work. Carrie E. Scott aided the library board as assistant state organizer.
Yesterday a public program featured a student gallery tour of departments led by teachers, followed by an informal reception from 2 to 6 with punch. Dr C L Hallam presided with music by Thompsons Orchestra and an address by Demarchis Browas, state librarian, plus a solo by Miss Anna Record Hovey. Historical talk on Library Movement in Mooresville was given by D B Jehassa. Rev J W S Collins gave the benediction.

Sylvester D Moon visited Mr and Mrs B F Troghem on Saturday and spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Syl vanus Moon in Indianapolis. He attended the Farmers Institute at Monrovia and plans to remain several days visiting relatives and friends in Mooresville toward week’s end and into next.
Forty four years ago J H Rusie J H Mills H C Cemduitt W H Gregory and J P Calvert conducted business in Mooresville. Calvert remains in business and has likely taken more pictures over the years than four other artists. All except Gregory live in town.
Mr and Mrs Hick Jackson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a dinner for a small gathering of relatives and friends. Guests included Mrs Jane Brown of Bargersville, Mr and Mrs Ralph Jackson and daughter Dorval, and Mr and Mrs M H Smith.
Dr Ve AL Magnheimer’s light car was struck by a southbound traction car on West Harrison Street in front of Neal Comer’s residence last Friday afternoon. The car overturned beside the track. Magnheimer was slightly bruised and alone in the vehicle.
The three week revival led by M. P. Church has benefited both church and town. The pastor has left for Pittsboro to assist Rev. Myers in another revival. Rev. Havens of Greenfield will lead services Sunday morning and night. The public is invited.
Elnstt sold his tinning and plumbing business to Alvah Dadley and Byron Brown. They will move tools and stock to Henry Bucher paint shop on South Monroe Street if no center town location is found. L. A. Shanafelt takes the old tin shop room behind his harness store.
B H W Cooper reserves a 40 by 80 foot concrete block garage on West Main Street. H W Lindley to extend a wareroom north from his rear business to the alley. Construction will begin when weather allows. O B Chandler holds both contracts.
A five act farce follows a pen niless widow who finds an oil well sprouting where her shack stood minutes earlier. Marie Tempest stars with Eddie Lucas Lee Moran Jean Hathaway Violet MacMillan and W Grahame Browne in a Dreamland Theatre production staged by Al Christie with his regular Nester company.
Hard Times Social at the Christian church home of Mr and Mrs Charles Furgas drew about 100 attendees. Guests paid fines for dressed up attire and raised roughly twelve dollars. A lively program of speaking and singing featured an orchestra led by Miss Tlathie Rovers. The prize for the shabbiest outfit went to Alva Spoon.
Mrs. Samantha Owen announces a display of 14 Coronet corset samples at Sumner Sisters Millinery Store. The display runs Saturday and the following week for inspection. Corsets offered at moderate prices.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the Christian church asks residents to donate old papers and magazines and to call phone 8 to arrange pickup or drop off of contributions.
A Christian church announces its annual chicken supper will be held on Washington's birthday with the venue to be announced later.
A seven room dwelling with barn and good water on West Harrison Street in Mooresville is offered for sale. Terms are reasonable and inquiries should be directed to E. K. Thomas.
A Brown-town Republican meeting in W H Hendersons real estate office chose precinct committeemen for the March 7 primary. First precinct W C Woods. Second precinct W D Macy. Third precinct Prank Sheets. Judges clerks and sheriffs for the primary were also chosen with strong resolve to work for Republican success this year.
Farmers and business men attended a Friday night lecture and moving pictures at the school house. Rex Rollie gave a very interesting talk to a fairly well attended gathering.
At the Martinsville town council room on Tuesday a meeting of citizens organized a local Civic League to cooperate with the Martinsville league and others in the county. D B Johnson was elected president and Frank Rariden secretary. Roscoe Wesley Thorne will lecture at the M I church next Sunday at 2:50 PM on Jacob and Esau.
The Masonic lodge conferred the first degree on four new members at its meeting last Friday. It is reported that ten applications for membership are on file for the lodge.
