Road surfaces and pavements froze over the past week leading to numerous accidents. Pedestrians slipped and were seriously injured in some cases. Vehicle and truck mishaps increased despite chains on wheels. Many disabled machines required pulling into garages.
Farmers Federation will meet Saturday January 24 1920 at 6 PM in the Public Library. Rev E O Kelley of Terre Maute will address the gathering described as an inspiring event for all ages and both farmers and their wives are urged to attend.
Monrovia organizes Subs Dillon Post No. 193 of the American Legion to honor two local boys who died in service. Officers listed include Ralph E. Bray as Commander and Raymond Bray as Vice-Commander with Ira Hinshaw as Treasurer, Howard Mce Cracken as Adjutant, and Irvin Beat as district representative. The post rooms are located over the First National Bank in Monrovia.
Marriage licenses issued for Thomas W. Frazer of Mooresville and Myrtle Johnson. William Bockins of Plainfield and Maude Hinshaw of Monrovia. William Ernest Boesche of Indianapolis and Ruby Jarrett of this city. Marvin L. McKinney and Doris Valena Simmons of Morgan County. William Harry Strader and Dollie Mervie Barger of this city.
At a recent stockholders meeting of the Waverly Bank the following were elected directors J L Avery Harry F E Dutton C W Vorl J A Landers C Sutton and Sam Watson. Officers named pres GC B Sutton vice pres C W Park cashier Sam Watson and assistant cashier Miss Catherine Watson.
Court activity includes Mrs Dessie Hunt facing a charge for failing to send notice to a ward and actors in several property and guardianship actions. A jury failed to reach a verdict in Gradword vs Union Traction Co. and was dismissed. A guardian petition for Moyes and a sale petition for John T Weaver’s estate were filed. O Connell v Adkins ruled for the defendant in a possessor case. A youth case notes reformary sentencing and guardianship through a guardian’s plea. Thomas N Frazer and Myrtle Johnson wed at a Brownsville home with attendees listed. Announcements cover quarterly church meetings for Se and Antioch and Rev J Will Payne to preach. A birth, a daughter to Lois Oilenmian on January 21 is recorded.

In heavy fog and icy conditions a Nash touring car driven by Ray Hill carrying six passengers and a coal truck driven by Wm Allison met head on on the Monrovia road near Gasburg. The truck could not stop, wheels slid, both vehicles damaged with more damage to the truck. No serious injuries, all shaken up.
The partnership existing between H M Smith and Philip Bernstein is dissolved with H M Smith retiring and Philip Bernstein continuing in business as of January 19 1920.
The Mooresville Elks overwhelmed the Cheyenne Indians 26 to 17 last Saturday night at Martinsville Gym. Mooresville dominated from start to finish, with the Redskins managing only long-range shots. The Indians blamed injuries to three key players for their weak showing as Mooresville set a strong pace toward possible Independent State titles.
