Multiple society items note marriages births visits and visits across Martinsville with guests from Indianapolis Irvington Brazil and Bloomington. Notable mentions include Clem Martin and Edna Hall wedding, Miss Hazel Warren guest of Edith Hadley, and a 25 percent clearance sale by Geo R Scruggs starting January 1.
The mothers' department of the Woman's Club met Monday afternoon in the speaker's absence. They discussed topics related to their line of work and found the meeting productive. The music and art department has a program scheduled for Monday afternoon January 11.
The second monthly meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association was held at the school house Tuesday evening. Walter Thompson's orchestra played four selections, Rev. B F Daily spoke on parental responsibility and cooperation, J. P. Calvert sang A Vision of the Past and A Letter in the Candle. H. Leathers led a discussion on Moving Pictures with A. C. Payne and Mrs. Romine. Light refreshments followed during social hour.
Marriages listed include Huston Brown to Hazel Moulton in Morgan County, David Ballinger to Carrie M. Smith of Martinsville, and Clem W. Martin to Edna Hall of Mooresville. Local notices reference visits, illnesses, and a death of Charles C. Jordan near Averly, with community events at the Friends church and various family travel notes. The Corner Drug Store advertises quince cream for chapped hands at 25 cents.
The library purchased a ten volume series on vocational education edited by William DeWitt Hyde. Each volume lists a different editor from notable institutions and professions. A reader friendly note says the set will help young people entering the workforce. A book titled Casualty Inter-Insurance Exchanges was donated by B V Hubbard, former Mooresville Utilities owner.
Resolutions express gratitude to Arthur Newby of Indianapolis and Judge Smith McPherson of Red Oak Iowa for funding a site purchase for a Carnegie library. The Mooresville board also thanks Mr. and Mrs. Hadley for pledging to cover any unreturned tax funds.
A direct toll line to Hazelwood is announced by the Mooresville Telephone Co. The notice states customers can reach Hazelwood directly via the new number.
Country Club and Walk Over club members surprised Mr. and Mrs. Amos Mills on New Year’s Eve with sugar and taffa. Bay View Club held open house New Year’s Day at Mrs. W. A. Lyon’s home with music by Clifton Furnas and others and refreshments. The library board met with all members present. Reese Coster named trustee and officers elected. Architect Parker presented library plans and the Carnegie Library Fund approval process moved forward.
Subscriptions paid include Louis Sawyer Camby Mrs Lou Foglemen and Cherryvaly Riley Parr as listed in the community notice.
