A local scandal rumor spreads though quiet chatter as residents share health notes and daily life. Names like J H Bayliss Frank Houston Ed Perry and others appear in a roundup of illnesses visitors and social visits alongside town board meetings and early January sales notices.
Bay View Club held a New Years open house from 3 to 6 pm at Miss Elizabeth Scruggs home. Nearly one hundred ladies attended despite bad weather. Tea room led by Mrs. Carl White and Mrs. W. A. Von Canon. music by Cyrilla Humes, Miss Frost, Harold Wilding, Clifton Furnas. Encores followed with selections from Tosca and Beethoven. Musicians and Miss Scruggs later dined at Moore's restaurant.
Mr Paul M Morton and Miss Ada L Huls wed at six last Friday evening in the bride’s parents home in Indianapolis. The ceremony was by the M E church pastor of North Indianapolis. A dinner followed. They will reside at 3431 Salem Street Indianapolis. Morton is with Shortridge Morton real estate firm. The bride previously served as a nurse at Dr Clark Robbins sanitarium here last summer and fall.
C M Hadley and John L Dobbin form a partnership as auctioneers and livestock dealers. Both men are longtime local farmers with broad connections among farmers and business men. Read their advertisement in this paper.
W H Wilson and Johnson contractors along with men building the new Wallace Park barn east of town were promised an oyster dinner by Mr Park when work began. Tuesday the crew received the meal with hearty thanks. Mrs Wilson and Miss Hadley helped serve.
The Likely Club held its first meeting of the year with Birs H C Scearce presiding. Members answered Indiana poets in roll call and a paper on The Wilderness we Bought from France was read by Mrs India Likely.
Nora E and H D Hummell direct a nearly 100 person rehearsal for Fi Fi of the Toy Shop to be staged in the High School auditorium January 13 and 14 with half the proceeds to the Woman's Club. Cast includes Anna Record Julia Hadley Clyda Thompson Katherine Furgeson Dorval Jackson John Morrison Clifton Furnas Ray Thompson.
A frontier post office inspector visited early in the week to study rural routes and potential reductions. Patrons on James Latta’s and Charles Comer’s routes urged no changes amid fears of carrier dismissals as complaints from a few locals surfaced.
The Fall Creek Manufacturing Company kept busy last week preparing samples for display at the annual furniture exhibit in Grand Rapids Michigan this week. Managers W AVon Canne and Carl Fulton add new lines to the stock with W AVon Canne attending the show.
The Junior class party at Miss Helen Yorks home attracted 38 members with 26 attending to play games and welcome the new year. Music, decorations, and refreshments of ice cream and cake highlighted the evening. Dreamland screened Uncle Toms Cabin to a large audience. Charles Lamont of Joppa reported recovering from a broken arm after a cow incident. Harold Harvey, son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Harvey, regains mobility but misses school due to blood poisoning in the limb. Ads note a toilet article selling job offering 10 to 25 dollars weekly with high profit. Miss Nelle Hinson of Indianapolis visited relatives and spent New Years with Miss Grace Pleak who now resides in Roosevelt, California. Mrs Lenna Watson will speak on The Endless Conflict at Friends church with Christian Endeavor led by Cebern Jaymes. Edith Woodward will finish school with Mrs Lafe Shephard.
Mr and Mrs Byron Harvey of Valley Mule visited Sunday to see Mrs Harvey s mother who has been quite sick but is now improving. The note adds an ad offering farm harness repair services by Lon Dickerson to prepare equipment for spring work.
