Frank Patrick of Eminence lost control on the Monrovia road near the White Lick creek bridge late Tuesday night. The car overturned and pinned him until daylight. He freed himself and walked to a nearby grocery, dazed but not seriously injured, though he is exposed.
Mr and Mrs Howard Lindley received their daughter Gladys home Saturday night. She died in Phoenix Arizona on Sunday December 24. Funeral services were at 2 pm Sunday at the Lindley home conducted by Mrs Mary Jessup with a mixed quartet and Maude Dillon of Monrovia singing A Perfect Day. Flower girls were Sylvia Hadley Dolly Joyner Norris McPherson and Mary Record. Pallbearers included Mrs Ira Tally Serena Mills Helen Hadley Irene Carlisle Edna and Marguerite Sage. Gladys was a Mooresville public school graduate and a Butler College student when ill. Her sister Kate Kane of Westfield and brothers Thomas and Dorval Kane attended. Friends from town and nearby communities joined the service.
Community briefs include trades and sales of wood and pork sausage, a Jersey cow for sale, farmhand wanted, a cabinet grand piano gift, family visits from Indianapolis and Plainfield, class reunions for 1915 and 1916, multiple visits to relatives, and illness notes. Also lost fox hound near Mooresville and radiator antifreeze ad references.
A revival begins at the Friends church Sunday evening January 7 with Leanah Hobson as evangelist. Subject is God s Yard Stick and is noted for her extensive evangelistic work in Mooresville and beyond including England and Scotland. Sunday School starts at 10 a m with Worship at 11 a m and C E at 6 p m led by Glen Roberts with topic Consecration.
The M. E. church pipe organ committee invites all subscribers to present their gifts to the listed committee members J. P. Calvert chair, Elizabeth Scruggs secretary, Mrs V A Magenheimer assistant, and J S Comer architect. Work hoped to begin next spring if funds are in hand. Those not yet contributing are urged to donate promptly.
Members of the Bay View Club hosted husbands and children at the library hall on New Year’s night. Dorval Jackson and Kath erine Friesner provided music, followed by a song duo Katherine and Robert Friesner and a neg ro dialect sketch by An and Dorval Jackson. Socializing continued with Julia and Isabel Hadley sharing the remainder of the evening.
Solomon Scotten will hold a public sale on his farm two miles north of Monrovia at 10 a m on Thursday January 11th. The sale includes horses cows calves sheep sows hay oats corn implements and many other articles. Col Warrison Shields is auctioneer V Millon acts as clerk. The Hazelwood Christian church Ladies Aid Society will provide dinner at the sale.
For Sale block and cook wood. Albert Chandler, son of O B Chandler, on a velocipede in the houses last Sunday fell and fractured a bone above the left ankle. He bore up bravely until the doctor arrived. He cannot attend school for a while. Mrs C C Carlisle spent most of last week in Indianapolis with relatives and friends. She and sister Mrs W C Smith hosted a six o'clock dinner Friday for her son Paul Gray and Bernette Lewis, students at the Pennsylvania Military Academy, and Miss Crossman and Miss Phillips of Florida, also Mildred Brackney of this place. Mrs Carlisle was visited by Miss Bell O’mare Friday afternoon.
J Raymond Schmidt state prohibition chairman and John Huddleston temperance singer sing and speak in the library assembly room next Monday at 7 30. Admission free. J Frank Hanly from the Flying Squadron Foundation speaks at the M E Church next Wednesday at 7 20. Everyone invited. Admission free.
Cleo J. Latta wed Lucile M. Greene on Saturday night December 30 at 8 o clock in the home of Mr and Mrs A J Savage 416 West 29th Street Indianapolis Miss Greene from Omaha Nebraska is cousin of Mrs Savage Latta formerly lived in Mooresville four years ago and will reside with his bride in Indianapolis
Miss Carrie E. Scott donated five poster adverts to the library and Mr and Mrs Charles Woodward of Grants Pass Oregon sent foliage and mistletoe for decorations. The piece urges New Year resolutions to read from top authors and to use library resources. A truck belonging to James Hubbard of Monrovia ran backward down Indiana street, damaged Hadleys gas and oil line, and Hadley bought a new five gallon gasoline outfit.
