Illinois GOP seeks harmony as Hitchcock may arbitrate

Chicago, Sept. 2. Republican National Committee Chairman Frank Hitchcock is drawn into Illinois factional strife after bitter primaries between Deneen and Yates over governor and Hopkins and Foss over the senate. He has met with Cannon, McKinley, Hopkins, Deneen, and others to craft a harmony program and may act as arbitrator if needed. The Illinois state convention is set for Sept. 9 in Springfield, with hopes of high profile speakers and efforts to back Governor Deneen’s renomination and align Foss and Hopkins supporters.
