Bankers' Bill Aims to Avert Financial Panics in Congress

Washington reports a currency bill introduced in the Senate by Senator Hopkins and in the House by James McKinney of Illinois. Endorsed by the American Bankers Association currency commission and the Illinois Bankers Association, the measure would create a guaranty fund in the U S treasurer and give note issuers priority claims on bank assets, with claims it could have supplied 300 million dollars during the recent crisis. The Aldrich bill text will be refined after treasury data arrives. Senator Bailey's plan for emergency deposits may be a leading feature.
