The War Work Council grants scholarships to 26 residents of the county, selecting recipients for various courses. Winners chosen from local applicants will pursue studies funded by the program.

The case, moved on venue from this county, charged Eichelberger with practicing veterinary surgery without a license. He had pleaded guilty previously in Justice of the Peace court in this city. A jury trial ended with the defendant pleading guilty and receiving a fifty dollar fine and thirty days at the State Penal Farm, suspended on good behavior. Lawyer attachments and filings marked a contested affidavit, with the defense and prosecution presenting motions. Local sellers and sale notices follow, including farm sales and tire promotions dated January 27.
Tuesday sale in Monticello saw a large entry with over fifty horses sold. Prices averaged about twenty dollars less than last month, with sound farm stock around 135 dollars per head. Jesse Briggs of Flora led as top buyer with roughly forty trades.

A group of Baptist church ladies honored Mrs William Helms on her 37th birthday last Friday afternoon with a fruit salad cake and coffee reception. An aluminum kitchenware item was presented to Mrs Helms as a gift.
Special from Brookston reports Miss Mary Gowan, a Renderson school teacher, forced to quit due to illness. Dr A. C. Arnett of Lafayette diagnosed the case as a mild form of sleeping sickness, alarming relatives and friends.
W A Barnes died at his home on Fast street Wednesday morning after a weeklong illness of blood poisoning. He leaves a wife and a 13 year old son Walter. Sister Ola Phillips of Champaign Illinois was with him before his death. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home. burial followed in the local cemetery conducted by the OL OB? of which he was a member.
A special meeting of the council is set for Saturday February 12 in the commissioners room at the county court house to select a successor to Councilman DeVault who resigned effective February 1 and who lived near Menominee. No candidate has been announced.
Downs Bros. of Idaville state they will crush corn on Wednesdays and Thursdays weekly and grind small grain and shelled corn the rest of the time.
Encampment members are urged to attend a February 7 meeting. Tr N Brown conducts a sale February 10 two miles northwest of Guernsey. Clarence Shields announces a public sale March 9 featuring horses cattle and feeding shoals.
Public sale of grade Porl Durham cows and heifers set for February 23 1921. Auction to be held at the usual sale grounds with catalog sale terms listed in advertisement.
The Monticello City Council approved installing 14 inch red globe posts at five principal street corners including the Hotel corner and Presbyterian Church corner. Each post will display advertising with electric illumination funded by city electricity. contracts cover Davis grocery, Johnsonbaugh grocery, and other corners. The move replaces wooden policemen with illuminated posts deemed an improvement for traffic and streets.
Miss Zerba Bailey will marry Freeman Edwin Austin in Chicago on Saturday and then move to LaCrosse Wisconsin. The bride is the youngest daughter of the late J W Bailey and sister of Lillie Bailey of this city. Mr. Austin works for Hoover Electrical Co of LaCrosse and is son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Austin of Carbondale.
Cecil and Delmar Austin Lowell Grassinger and Kenneth Kellenburg were arraigned in juvenile court before Judge B F Carr on petty theft charges. After hearing evidence the four received suspended sentences to the Budiana Boys Serial at Plainfield with orders of good behavior. They admitted stealing numerous items from stores and from Union Brick School House east of Monticello. If found guilty again they will be sent to the state institution without delay.
A splendid Red Cross meeting was held Tuesday afternoon at the Red Cross rooms. Dr Hurry from the State Board of Health spoke on health problems and the Red Cross nurse’s county role. Miss Best, the County Nurse, reported on the value of hot lunches in schools.
Announcements report the marriage of Frank Roberts and Miss Ada Plew of Sheridan. The ceremony occurred at the bride's home on Tuesday January 18. Mr. Roberts is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roberts of this city. They will reside in Huntington Indiana after a two week trip through Texas.
The Indiana Senate debated multiple constitutional amendments including extending voting rights to all citizens 21 and over after six months in state and thirty days in ward residence. Amendments set pay protections for officers, reform ratification method, and curb slanderous statements. A Shelby County hospital measure passed, while memorial day protections and road funding bills faced mixed votes.
The White County Shipping Association will convene its second annual meeting Saturday afternoon February 5 in Reynolds school building. President Carl P L Bardenner announced a routine agenda including regular business and reports from officers and committees.
Thornton Williams Post No 81 American Legion presents its first minstrel at the Strand Theatre with a 30 member male chorus, premier end men, interlocker, pianists, and a five act program including solos duets and comedy. The Women's Benefit Association of the Maccabees plans its annual dinner at the hall on February 11. Members are urged to attend and bring a covered dish. Also included is an oil advertisement and a notice about an estate sale coming February 15.
