White County Teachers Institute Announced For August
The White County Teachers Institute will run the week of August 26 in Monticello at the Highman building. About 150 teachers are expected and several instructors including Al Bachtenkircher from Laseyelle schools, James M. Matheny of Indianapolis, and George E. Schlafer of Indiana University will lead penmanship pedagogy psychology and music play ground work respectively. Schlafer will devote afternoon games at Camp Taylor experience informs his talks. A teacher shortage exists due to male teachers entering military service and women taking war jobs. The county schools reopen September 9 with two Monticello high school vacancies to fill after Gardner and Fraser left Camp Taylor.
