Jellico Blast Kills Dozens, Wrecks Town in Tennessee Kentucky
A freight car loaded with 20 000 pounds of dynamite exploded near Jellico, killing twelve and injuring many while causing about 500 000 dollars in property damage. Buildings across both Jellico sides were destroyed and telegraphic lines were cut as residents fled in panic. The blast occurred eight o clock Friday morning near the Southern depot and Rand Powder consignments. Eyewitness accounts cite possible other bodies under rubble and two argued causes include a bullet entering the car during a marking shoot or a carload of pig iron striking it on a side track.
