Electric street illumination upgrade planned for Monticello streets

The city begins installing five new electroliers on First street replacing the old light clusters. Each lamp will be 300 candle power with a single glass globe, brighter than current lights, at a cost over 2000 dollars. A new electric cable will reduce recent leaks, with a minimum annual service of 2500 dollars and eight cent rates for excess usage. The city enjoys a favorable power contract for the water pumping station, reducing pumping costs versus a steam engine system which would raise water rates.
