Fire truck saves hay barn at E G Hicks farm
The Castle Grove community demonstrated its fire truck at the E G Hicks farm north of Monti cello when a large mow of alfalfa hay began spontaneous combustion. The truck pumped water through 800 feet of hose into the barn interior and helped remove wet hay while a fire in the mow was kept under control. Fire Chief C J Matthiessen supervised the effort with assistant chief Leigh Clark. The barn was large and likely saved from destruction, and subscribers are urged to finalize payments to support the outfit.
