Mr and Mrs Charles Butler Cedar Rapids stayed with Fred Matthiessen and were joined by Robert and Richard Thompson of St Paul, Matthiessen s grandsons visiting relatives in Marion.

Notes include a five year old breaking an elbow, upcoming nursing training in Clinton, and a Sioux Indian orchestra engagement at Imperial Gardens with prior performances in major cities.
Schreiner chapter Order of Eastern Star will hold its first fall meeting Tuesday evening Sept 13 all members invited Mrs L Daisy Burd of London gave a piano recital for Paul Locher youngest son of Mr and Mrs J J Locher after completing his music course Paul will begin his second year at Notre Dame University South Bend Ind Mrs Cornelius Steck hosted Neighborhood Reading and Sewing club Tuesday afternoon guests enjoyed fancy work and readings from a book followed by refreshments
Mrs Carl Jolly hosted the Woman's Missionary Society gathering at her home last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs R P Clark led devotionals, and Mrs Charles Luett gave a talk on National Missions before refreshments were served by the hostess and Mrs Clark and Mrs Luett.
Mr and Mrs Hans Kettlitz and Mr and Mrs E J Farley hosted a lawn picnic supper last Thursday evening at Karl Keyes home. Honoring guests were Mr and Mrs W W Low and son Dick of Chicago and Mr and Mrs Ray McAdams of Lansing Michigan, who are staying with the hosts. Other attendees included Mr and Mrs Karl M Keyes, Mr and Mrs Ralph Bone and family, and Mr and Mrs Frank Stimson.
Mr and Mrs George Burrichter returned home from their wedding trip to a large reception hosted by Mr and Mrs Will Burrichter. Neighbors and relatives over a hundred attended with cards visits and gifts. Refreshments followed the gathering. Mrs Olin Howie hosted a luncheon for Mrs Lowell Hicks and Mrs Norman Bringard of Detroit with Mrs John McCoy and Mrs Hubert Metcalf from out of town. The afternoon included fancy work and readings by Miss Loretta Bringard.
A lively group of club members and guests gathered for a hard-times bridge party at the club house last evening. Hosts included Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Carpenter, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Hicks, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Hicks, and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Shelley. Mrs. Ralph Bone and A. J. Rickless won high scores for bridge.
The prines consisted of a $5,000 gold mining bond and a 1,000 mark 1916 German bond, neither carrying value beyond the value of the paper printed.
Jimmie Bone son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Bone celebrated his ninth birthday at home Monday afternoon with a group of boys. Games and a treasure hunt highlighted the event followed by a lawn refreshments and birthday cake. Guests included Marvin Schoon Everett Clark Raymond Behrends Jackie Stuhler Bobby Egger Duane Dicky Sutherland Bill Stuhler Dicky Landis George Doxace and Graydon Reed.
One of the most enjoyable parties of the summer season for the young set was held last Saturday eve. Guests enjoyed music, dancing, and refreshments, with several local youths highlighted for their spirited participation.
A surprise party was hosted by Mrs. Herman Schneider at her home in honor of twin nieces Esther and Fern Bender. Guests included Wilma Clark Frances Steck Miriam Fairbanks Georgia Mae Orcutt Ruth Graves Esther and Fern Bender and Clemma Weneer. They played games and danced then adjourned to Clemma Weneer’s home for a slumber party.
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Kay marked their silver wedding anniversary with a family dinner at home. All immediate family members attended, seated at a single long table adorned with silver and Venetian blue glassware, a central arrangement of silver flowers in a blue bowl, blue candles, and silver tulle.
Urines and silver place cards marked the day as the bride and bridegroom, now with two children John and Elizabeth, received congratulations and gifts of silver. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kay Jr of Monticello, Kathryn Kay, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Newton and son Donald, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Swartzell, Ruth and Robert of Olin, and Miss Gladys Kiefer of Cedar Rapids.
Bob Beacher, 55, of Cedar Rapids, paid a $500 fine last Thursday after pleading guilty to maintaining a liquor nuisance. Police found 33 quarts of home brew at Beacher's home. A three month jail sentence was suspended by Judge H. C. Ring.
