Other items note Paul Warner in Monticello after Marine service, Fred L Kromminga sells 20 acres to Oliver Kiburz for 30 dollars per acre, and Harvey Heiken announces a closing sale planned for October 30 as the family plans to move to California.
Mrs. John Oltman hosted Idle Not club with good attendance as county bookmobile project was discussed. Homemakers and Farm Bureau activities featured with Better Living goals and future plans. various local residents attended meetings and a bazaar was announced at Peniel chapel. Mrs Leota King presided as hostess at a group gathering.
The first six weeks of senior year honor roll lists 60 students led by Donna McCurdy with 95.50 average. The readout shows 47 girls and 13 boys among the honorees with multiple grades from seventh through eleventh grade, including several students in the 90s.
Monti High Student Council elected officers after a Tuesday organization meeting. Gene Kuehl was chosen president with Jim Seehusen as vice president and Susan Stuhler as secretary. Stuhler was named bulletin board chair with a large helper group, while Seehusen leads the assembly committee and Sanitation chair, with Ted committees listed for safety and Pep song writing.
West Branch toppled Monti 25 to 128 amid a back and forth contest. Ken Kiburzy, a giant tackle, returned a kickoff 7 yards for a touchdown after West Branch took a early 19 point lead in the first quarter. Benson scored for Monti in the second, ending with Monti’s strong passing effort.
Sociology classes plan panel discussions for the semester under Mr Kells and Miss Wood. Best panels may be performed before students or showcased in an exchange program. Topics include education democracy youth crime and mental hygiene with new units to follow.
Following a two week old drill the inquiring reporter gathered quotes from Monti High students and faculty. The views emphasize orderliness, safety education and confidence in orderly egress during real fires.
For the first time in Monti High history Dad’s day will be observed Friday. Fathers of boys on the squad will be admitted free. After the game refreshments will be served in the homemaking room for Mount Vernon boys and the Panther squad with their fathers. A short program will follow.
Monti school twirlers Helen Gerdes Lois Clark Betty Bartlett and Carlene Winkler competed at the state marching band event in Tipton. Gerdes earned a Division I rating in the national honor event while Clark and Bartlett received Division II ratings in the state meet.
