In October 1884 the Bowen's Prairie page notes absence of news from the area and invites a new correspondent. It mentions the Flying Dutchman rumor, local clubs, and that Ella Liffle has returned from a western visit.
In Cascade and nearby areas the community shares wedding wishes for Minnie Miller and updates on health travels of Thomas Rynerson. Obituaries and social notices intermingle with local sales including cattle and hogs at Santa Rosa Ranch and a 160 acre Monticello farm for sale.
The ad promotes Dr Jones Red Clover Tonic as a cure for blood diseases stomach and liver troubles pimples indigestion loss of appetite and more. It claims 50 000 boxes sold yearly with pleasant cathartic effects and no stomach upset. Price 50 cents a box or five for a dollar. Sold by all druggists.
