Fall lime application advised for Iowa soils
Iowa State College soils experts urge fall lime use to correct soil acidity before planting. Proper timing avoids deep plowing issues and limestone adds calcium, boosts fertilizer efficiency, and promotes soil health. They estimate 75 to 90 percent of Iowa soils need lime, especially in the east. The Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station will test soils to determine exact lime requirements.
