The Monticello fire department earns praise for its residential fire inspection program and a now broader emergency unit. Volunteers fund a new vehicle with dances, remodel the station front for safer exits, and boast extensive first aid training and public service.
Mrs. Ralph Willimack hosted a party at home on Oct. 6 for son Garry as he turned 10 with games and a Wiener roast. Mrs. Acll Topping held an Oct. 3 gathering while Mary Jane Steiner of Monticello demonstrated. The Arlo McNamee family hosted guests Oct. 6, and Oct. 7 saw Raymond Ralston visiting the Gene Walruff home.
In Scotch Grove on Saturday October 6 Sara Paulsen celebrated her ninth birthday with a daytime party at home attended by Susan Savage Mon ticello Ruth Ann Lacock Wyoming Julie Blohm Center Junction Linda Paulsen and many others. Evening guests included Ronald and Paulsen and John 8 Paulsen families. The Scotch Grove Women's Community club plans its first fall meeting October 17 at the home of John E Paulsen with assistant hostesses Kathleen Norris G J Hughes and William B Henrichs. Susan Savage Monticello hosted an overnight visit with Sara Paulsen. Mrs John Wright, recently hospitalized in Monticello, returned home Monday evening.
The Iowa Tuberculosis and Health association holds its fall board meeting in Des Moines on Oct. 18 to discuss research public health legislation and future TB work. Mrs Marion Serbousek of Anamosa represents Jones County on the state board along with other local TB volunteers. The meeting is open to the public.
Buck Creek Methodist Youth Fellowship hosted a hayride and progressive supper with Golden and Hopkinton churches on Friday starting at Rev. and Mrs. David Saunders home. Seventy attendees, including chaperones Rev. Randy Middleton and Rev. Dick Watkins, visited multiple homes. The column also notes anniversaries, district meetings, bazaars, guests, and numerous local social activities involving Buck Creek residents and surrounding families.
Miss Bess Lennox of Los Angeles and Mrs Alicin Bartos of Cedar Rapids visited Tuesday with Mrs Herman Dolley. Miss Bernita Houston and Mary Martha Miles live at 1540 2nd Ave SE Cedar Rapids and spent the weekend at their homes here.
Army 1st Lt. Robert C. Northrup of Anamosa recently finished a three day field artillery battery test with the 10th Infantry Division in Germany. He serves as a radar officer in the division's 35th field artillery battalion.
Lt Northrup entered the army in 1942 and arrived in Europe for this tour of duty in July 1955. He is a Mor ley Consolidated high school graduate and is accompanied by his wife Barbara in Germany.
