Devastating 1878 Tornado Hits Town and Church
An October 8 1878 tornado wrecked the town's Catholic church and many homes causing heavy losses. One survivor Mrs Houser escaped to a cellar while others faced damage to a barber shop and lumber yard. A town meeting raised 1500 in one day to aid victims and donations came from local leaders.

Fifty Iowa Indians from Sauk Fox Sioux and Ioway visited Boston October 30 1837 after a Washington peace council. The event became a city holiday with a war dance at the common and a welcome by Governor Edward Everett before state and city officers.
