Charles Baux of Pershing Marion county was arrested for kidnapping after taking his children ages 7 and 11 to a Knoxville hotel to spend the night. He claimed he only intended to spend the night and sent them to school the next morning. the case was dismissed.
Jasper county fair at Newton shuts down midweek due to financial troubles. Reporter James R. Rhodes notes an attachment on all funds at the ticket booth ends further operations.
An avalanche of creditors confronted the secretary after director Mr. Rhodes moved to cover a $560 printing bill. Rodeo performers refused until paid, a lone cowboy and a weary band entertained, and the fair did not open the following morning while a night show was staged.
