Farm profits hinge on management and market conditions in 1932
East central Iowa farms in 1932 show 25 percent with net income of 788 dollars and 95 percent with a net loss of 1708 dollars. High profit farms averaged 5142 in cash sales and 4033 expenses, while low profit farms had 4281 in sales and 3961 expenses. Net results depended on feeding efficiency, depreciation, and market luck rather than yields or debt alone. Management, feed conversion, and market choices explained the large gap between groups.
