Monticello takes pride in its hospital praised for 28 years of service enabled by the late John McDonald and local funding. Community volunteers and the Monticello State Bank helped build and sustain operations with 24 hour care and a diverse menu from donated food.
Monticello residents urged to purchase Victory Bonds to aid government finance and fight inflation. Farmers told to invest cash in bonds as ready liquidity for farms, noting bonds offer strong interest and security, with economists calling them best buy for farmers.
CENTER JUNCTION The 22mal homecoming of the Center Junction high school is being held at the school house this event. Wednesday, Two basketball games, Sacred heart, Monticello versus Center Junction, table games and dancing will be a part of the entertainment. Lunches will be served. Thanksgiving Services Thanksgiving services will be held ino the Presbyterian church Vas evening, Wednesday, at seven o'clock, with A. H. Schroeder, student pastor, delivering the sermon.

Iowans back Truman’s navy takeover of strikebound firms, and most oppose wave strikes though some say earlier action is better. A Gallup section finds Iowa trends mirror national pay views.
A survey asks if workers would accept 40 hours a week for less pay than 48 hours during wartime. Varying opinions emerge with 56 percent saying no opinion and 37 percent opposing the idea.

The John McDonald Hospital Monticello is to receive for Thanksgiving 25 napkins 25 nut cups 25 favors and 25 tray covers.
A dual poem piece by Shirley Ann McCurdy and Marilyn Landis reflects 1945 Thanksgiving themes. It praises peace and freedom while honoring service, and foresees a turkey's fateful day in the barn yard as a contrasting vignette. The verses celebrate gratitude, faith, and national pride amid wartime outlook.
The three act comedy George Washington Slept Here premiered to a full house with strong performances by Margaret Ann Zimmerman Jim Seehusen Bob Messerli Donald Newton and others. The production directed by Mrs Greenley and the crew earned high praise while Monti High graduate Dick Sutherland left for Naval Air Cadet training after a five week run with the cast.
An assembly in the auditorium Wednesday awarded football letters to fourteen players. Seniors Ken Kiburz captain, Richard Skelley, Gene Kuehl, Robert Thooni, Hob Otten. Juniors Robert Mexserli, Donald Newton, Don Huckbarth, Richard Fingon, Ronald Benson, James Sechusen. Sophomores Robert Lubben, Robert Goals. Freshman Grandamson. The school was dismissed until next Monday.
