Des Moines reports the final government crop data for Iowa. Corn yield reaches 389 million bushels, worth about 237.29 million at 61 cents each, versus 202.98 million last year. Wheat and oats totals fall short of 1913 while potatoes rise. 12.6 million bushels of potatoes estimated, up over five million from prior year.
Miss Mary Lane twenty native of West Union was acquitted by a Dubuque jury on murder charges for smothering her infant last July. The verdict found her mentally incapable at the time. She had carried the infant from Dubuque to West Union the morning after its birth.
Twenty local farmers visited Henry 8. Terry’s farm fifteen miles away and husked and cribbed 500 bushels of corn in one day. They also hauled twenty acres of corn fodder to the barn and stored it for winter use helping a sick neighbor.
Albert Strief stole 120 ducks from John Lunbeck of North Fork Tuesday night. He was arrested Wednesday, arraigned the same day, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to two years in the Fort Madison penitentiary, where he began serving his term Friday.

Shenandoah leader F P Spencer of Randolph Iowa known as the apple king will be a principal speaker at the fortieth annual session of the Southwestern Iowa Horticultural society. The event runs December 1 and 2 in Atlantic inviting growers from across the region.
B W Agard editor of the Goldfield Chronicle has sold the paper to H W Mitchell who came from Canby Minnesota and will take possession at once. Agard says he will return to farming near Ceylon Minnesota after answering the call back to the soil.
The cornerstone for the Wartburg German Theological Seminary was laid in Dubuque with Rev. F. Richer of Clinton conducting the services. The ceremony marked the start of construction on the new theological school.
Fire at the Pat Swain farm near here destroys all buildings except the residence. The large new barn holds 3,000 bushels of grain. Total loss estimated at $8,000.
James IL Umphreys age 38 died from a mule kick. He was son of Mr and Mrs Charles C Umphreys of Stennett and left a widow and five children. He had lived in Odehbolt for several years.
Davenport reports Johann Wynock convicted of second degree murder for decapitating his wife. Judge Theophilus imposes a seventeen year sentence at hard labor in the Fort Madison penitentiary.
Des Moines reports new pensions granted in Iowa with recipients including Sarah B. Coles of Chariton and Mary A. Cox of Knoxville each receiving 12 dollars, Sophia C. McCoy of Muscatine, Julia M. Jellison of Marion, and Glen E. Plumley of Des Moines each receiving 24 dollars.
Alexander McGregor aged 86 one of Linn counties earliest pioneers and a respected citizen died at his daughter home in Cedar Rapids.
Prof. A. T. Erwin of the state experiment station says growers in Pleasant Valley succeed due to know how and repeated cropping rather than unique soil. Reports indicate yields of 400 to 500 bushels per acre and prices from 1 to 1.50 dollars per bushel with one 14 acre farmer earning about 700 dollars per acre.
Carl Barwieck, an elderly Davenport resident, donated his family Bible, a 311 year old German Bible printed in 1608 in Wittenberg, to the German war relief fund. He offered it as his sole contribution, hoping its sale would raise funds for the fatherland. Wealthy Germans plan to buy it for the Academy of Sciences.
In a dispute over two chairs, a man was fatally shot and two others were seriously injured by knives and bullets in Sioux City. Charles Alvano was shot in the back and is expected to die. Charles Sarvioli was shot in the chest, and Arsei Coiro suffered two stab wounds to the back.
Fort Dodge report says Elmer Margnum and his wife, accused of robbing an auto liveryman they rode with cross country, binding and gagging him, and stealing the automobile, have been bound over to the grand jury on robbery charges.

Carl Hans Lody also known as Charles A Inglis was executed by firing squad for espionage after being found guilty by a court martial. He died in the Tower of London after refusing to name his superior officer.
London reports the Niger a British torpedo gunboat built in 1892 and displacing 810 tons was torpedoed in the Downs north of the Straits of Dover yesterday morning and foundered. Officers and crew were saved. It carried two 4.7 inch guns four 30 pounders one machine gun and three 18 inch torpedo tubes and could reach 19.2 knots.
In London on November 13 reports from the parliamentary lobbies say Prime Minister Asquith will seek sanction to raise 1,000,000 additional troops for the war, bringing total force to 2,000,000 men.
San Francisco dispatch reports 25,000 Australian troops embarked in 23 transports with 14 cruisers, sailing at night from Sydney October 24. The destination is rumored to be Egypt, as passengers arriving today recount the voyage.
London dispatch reports Gen Louis Botha contacting rebel Gen de Wet 24 miles east of Winburg. The engagement left the rebels severely defeated with 250 taken prisoner.

Frederick Augustus Heinze was buried at Greenwood following funeral services at his sister’s home. The estate is valued around 1.5 million dollars and is to pass to his young son. No will has been located yet.
In Charleston on November 13 F W R Hinman publisher of the Times Union Jacksonville was killed on board the Clyde Line Mohawk. Captain Ingram and C Wright of Utica were badly wounded while E C Perkins who suddenly became insane fired his weapon.
Nashville Tenn November 13 The executive council of the National American Woman Suffrage Association declared its political nonpartisanship and went on record as opposed to attacks upon any political party.
Washington reports the department of agriculture issued a bulletin warning of a possible poultry trust. The notice urges chicken raisers to back local poultry packing industries to safeguard markets and prices.
Mrs. Surana Jackson aged seventy eight died at her Sedalia Missouri home. She was known for surrendering Sedalia in 1864 to General Sterling Price during his Confederate raid from Missouri into Arkansas.
In Murphysboro Illinois on November 13 Scott Beauty and Edward Williams were killed at Alto Pass when a dynamite blast failed to fire properly and the fuse hung causing fatal injuries during stump demolition.

J C N Beckman Democratic candidate for Kentucky reported 5325 contributions 2550.66 expenses. George Nichols Progressive Kentucky 6.15 spent. Senator Smith re elected in Maryland reported 1927.75 more expenditures and no contributions. Brandegee re elected in Connecticut spent 2500 with no contributions. Fletcher re elected in Florida reported neither contributions nor expenditures. Cummins re elected in Iowa reported no contributions and no expenditures except travel.

Henry Leyhe, founder of the Eagle Packet Co., dies at 76 in Alton. John P F Braun pleads guilty to mail misuse in Freeport, but a verdict of not guilty is directed for his wife Kate Braun, mother of eight.
