Washington November 12 Brigadier General Alexander McDowell McCook is named major general succeeding Howard. Colonel James W Forsyth of the Seventh Cavalry is promoted to brigadier general to take McCook’s place. McCook remains in command of the Department of Colorado at Denver until next April.
