Our view endorses Monticello Development Corporation formed by the Greater Morice Committee to attract and expand manufacturing in Monticello. The group targets 80 000 in stock subscriptions by July 1 1956 and seeks to create an active body supporting local industry and housing growth.
A female test driver for an auto maker forecasts the number of women drivers will rise from 25 million to 47 million in ten years. She argues this will push the nation’s safe driving record higher as more women take to the road.
The Monticello Express is the official Monticello Iowa newspaper established July 10 1865. It publishes Mondays and Thursdays and is a member of the Iowa Press Association and National Editorial Association. Subscription rates are 4.50 in local counties and 5.50 elsewhere.
S D Day presents a safety push with a female test driver asserting women, who drive less, have far fewer accidents. She cites women at one tenth of all accidents despite one third of licensed drivers. Surveys show men drive more miles yet have over ten times the male accident rate.

Jones county schedules 1956 cost-sharing ACP to fund land use adjustments and farm conservation tasks. A.S.C. plans include 21 authorized practices with $78,300 allotted, meetings set in Anamosa November 16 to outline the program and encourage farmer applications for 1986 ACP aid and 1988 AICP support.
Sgt James T Webber 19 son of Mr and Mrs John Webber Monti cello is slated to depart Germany for the United States in mid November under Operation Gyroscope the Army rotation plan His unit the 1st Infantry Division will be relieved by the 10th Infantry Division and stationed at Fort Riley Kansas Webber joined the Army in December 1953 and arrived overseas in April 1954.
Mr and Mrs Charles Wright of Manchester spent Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Wright. Wilma Wright was taken to an Iowa City hospital Tuesday for treatment. Miss Betty Burrichter of Marshalltown spent the weekend in the parental George Burrichter home.
Mr and Mrs Robert Alden along with several couples attended a Lions club district meeting at Ovlwe Sunday. Local families hosted multiple gatherings including a 500 club event and a picnic supper with Nahad Ibrahim and Gloria Haughi.
Jane Stubler of Bremerton Washington and Mr and Mrs James Rosborough of Moline NL were weekend guests in the home of Mr and Mrs Gene Byers. Miss Stubler is en route to Washington DC for a Red Cross assignment after two years of service in Korea and Japan. Mrs A J H McNeill visits in Chicago with her daughter and family, Miro and Mrs John Monahan. Hl Rev and Mrs Howard Irvine of Birmingham Iowa were Wednesday guests in the W D McLaughlin home.
