A warehouse just outside the Illinois state penitentiary burned at 11 20 am Friday. The blaze started in broom corn stock and spread to chair stock but did not reach the box lumber stock of Selz Schwab Co due to a fire wall. Losses total about 7500 for the state with no insurance while Selz Schwab Co faces roughly 400 on water damage with full coverage. Convicts aided officers in saving stock and wardens own household goods were destroyed.
J W Kamme killed Thursday morning by leaping in front of a Chicago bound Illinois Central train near Highland Illinois. His body torn in two, he leaves a wife and nine children. In Santander Spain a ship loaded with dynamite exploded Friday night. Hundreds killed and up to 800 reported dead with 450 wounded. Fire swept streets as crowds fled the quay and several public buildings and archives burned.
Louis A. Wright an 18 year old from Newton Massachusetts now jailed as an incendiary has confessed to starting the Boston fires last spring that damaged Lincoln street area and others. The blazes including the Hecht building Ames Lincoln Brown Durrell and additional properties caused three million dollars in losses and eight deaths.
Ex premier M Tirard born 1827 in Geneva died Saturday in Paris. He served as deputy from 1871 and senator from 1884 and held posts as minister of agriculture and commerce and finance. Also notes death of Chinese giant Chang at Bournemouth.
