Onslow Livestock Shipments Highlight Northwestern Line Need
Seattle shippers delivered 228 deck loads of live stock from Onslow in the past year and about 100 cars of merchandise entered Onslow. After a 1944 flood shipments were halted on the Northwestern line between Maquoketa and Anamosa. service resumed in 1946 after the railroad was ordered to continue freight. Discontinuing the line would force livestock from Wyoming or Center Junction at higher cost, underscoring the line’s importance to Onslow and to farmers south of Cascade.
