A column lauds Dr. A. P. Lambert for guiding Monticello as a dedicated full time mayor on a part time salary. He advanced streets, water, housing, a municipal airport, rabies control, and civic growth while serving with honest council partners and mentoring a stable leadership core.
Scotch Grove Mrs. Paul Ladehoff of Monticello will host the Oak Drive Community club at her Monticello home on November 8 at 1 30 p.m. Roll call asks for a favorite candy recipe and Mrs. Frank Kiburz will handle recreation. Members should bring ideas for next year’s program.
Mr and Mrs Roy White observed their golden wedding with a family dinner in Oxford Junction. They were married Oct 24 1906 in Manchester. Mr White retired from Milwaukee railroad in 1952 after 47 years. They have six children, 13 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
M YF members hosted Luther League Halloween party Tuesday night in the church basement with Mrs. Thomas Hanwardson Mrs. Harold Hodgden and Mrs. Jim Clapp assisting with refreshments and entertainment.
About 15 Oxford Junction firemen attended a Lost Nation meeting Monday evening. Films of last summer’s donkey ballgame were shown and the night ended with cards. Lunch was served by Lost Nation firemen. A Friendship night in Maquoketa drew a group of Mapleleaf Chapter 0.0.5 attendees with Mrs Anna Burda as marshal and several named ladies. Terry Hall trains at Camp Carson Colorado. Joe Milota has been ill but improving. Lumir Milota of Davenport is visiting. Mr and Mrs L M Hayden hosted a dinner Sunday with guests Vernon Carson Mary Hayden Ed Sazma and Christine Sazma.
Mrs Neva Paulista returns from the Grand Chapter of OES in Des Moines serving as Worthy Matron of Peerless chapter in Oxford Junction. Frank Nowachek released from Mercy hospital, but readmitted by Hayden’s ambulance. Neighbors and relatives from Sanborn Monticello Gilbertsville Washington Iowa and Denver visitations noted.
The Sunshine club gathered at the C. J. Gerdes home for a Halloween party with members in costume and prizes awarded for best outfits. Refreshments followed as guests mingled, with several local families and visitors noted in attendance.
Mrs. Marie Prull and John Reuter attended a Sunday supper at the Gerke Hanken home with Gerd Prull and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hanken and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Arduser. Earlier, Sunday afternoon visitors at the Arthur Riedel home included Mrs. Ben Engelbart, Mrs. Louie Helgens, Mrs. Ray Rieniers and Sherry. Also listed are Mr. and Mrs. Casper Arduser.
Sunday visitors called at the Clifford Arduser home in Wyoming. Mr and Mrs Lucian Fuhrmeister and Sue and Norman of Green Mountain Iowa visited Mr and Mrs Robert Alden. Luther Fuhrmeister of Cedar Rapids also called, while Nellie Fuhrmeister returned from visiting Lucian Fuhrmeisters.
