Berlin reports the rededication of the Luther Memorial Church at Wittenberg completed at Emperor William’s expense. The ceremony drew 5 000 visitors and featured a grand imperial procession, key handover, sermons, a Luther life display, a banquet for 220 guests, and a later Luther festival performance. The church dates to 1438 1499 with restorations after damage in 1760 and 1813 14.
Washington November 1 The president returns to official duties at the White House and spends most of the forenoon on routine matters. Attorney General Miller is his only visitor and secures action on several pardon cases. Officials expect full routine to be reestablished by week’s end.
Full details emerge of a Piedmont Alabama Sunday night train robbery. Two masked men boarded the baggage car and express car, disarming Will Yeatman and Jim Quinn. They took $700 from Express Messenger Rogers and fled into the woods after a brief chase as Engineer Bailey Green sped the train to safety. No arrests yet.
In Philadelphia, three men William Miller Albert Krumbach and Warren Hill attempted a river crossing near Point Breeze on a rowboat when a lit pipe ignited the surface oil. Hill sank and was not seen again while Miller and Krumbach escaped but suffered severe burns.
