How Very English Delightful Monticello Play
Monticello high school's senior class presented a three act comedy How Very English in the school auditorium last Friday May 25. Cast included Wanda Cooper Loretta Specht Fern Bender Beat rice Bailey Elmer Kaufman Clarence Seedorff Raymond Hodgson and Bernard Che. Director Miss Ruth Burnstedt of the Monticello public school coached the actors and shaped the performance to high quality. The high school orchestra directed by Earl Holtz opened the program with Il Trovatore and Fair Maid of Perth. Between acts the girls sextette sang two numbers with piano accompaniment by Elizabeth Wallis supervisor of public school music.

Country Club Opening Party Draws Record Attendance
The Country Club hosted its largest opening party last Thursday with 131 dinner guests. Francis Merten won a nine hole tournament gross 38 and net 28, five strokes ahead. Club officials stressed improving finances and growth as Ken Davidson’s seven piece band played and dancing followed.

Mrs. James Mulhall died at her Chicago home last Tuesday morning. She was the mother of Mrs. Fay Clark. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Friday morning at the Catholic church. Mr. and Mrs. Clark and their son Raymond attended the funeral.

The Monticello Country Club defeated West Liberty 1289 to 1370 in the inter-club meet held last Sunday after 1:30 p.m. Top score honors went to C. Preiss of West Liberty with 37-39-76. Justin Kehoe of Monticello shot 79 after a 43 first round, securing medalist second place. The Monticello team showed rare improvement and hosts Mount Vernon next Sunday at 2:36 p.m.

Farmer Fred Beyer Fatally Struck by Car Near Farley
Fred Beyer 66, a Farley area farmer, was killed Monday around 10:30 a.m. when crossing Highway 20 near Farley he was struck by a car driven by Mrs. Beatrice C. Wolfe of Waukegan. Beyer died at Finley Hospital at 1:45 p.m. after the collision. Mrs. Wolfe and passenger Selma Jo Dan of Waukegan were detained briefly by Sheriff T. J. Ryder pending coroner’s inquiry, then released. Beyer was crossing from south to north when struck while returning from his farm with Melvin and James Wright to pick up his mail.
