In eastern Iowa's Monticello and Jones county the Security Loan bond drive faces low progress with only 17 percent of the quota met as of the 15th. The appeal urges citizens to support bonds for global peace and to honor Memorial Day by buying at banks or post offices, hoping the leaders' unhappiness ends.
Center Junction closes Friday with a 10 30 a m start for a picnic lunch at noon and a varied program including the eighth grade graduation for Cecil Perkins the only senior. Community urged to attend dinner and program. Vacation Bible school starts June 14 with half day sessions for two weeks and plans for a children's day program June 13. Union memorial service 10 30 a m at Scotch Grove Presbyterian church May 30 with Center Junction church cooperation. Sunday school closes at 10 20 to allow teachers and classes to attend Scotch Grove service.
Frank E. Stimson urges residents to buy security bonds to meet Jones county’s quota of $934 712 before June 30th. He says there is ample money locally and asks local media to boost the drive to aid the government.
Floyd Horton of Onslow suffered a broken back after a manure loader fell Tuesday. He was rescued by his son in law Wayne Wyeth and transported by ambulance to Mercy hospital Anamosa where doctors set his back in a cast. He will be disabled for months. The report also notes local injuries to two children and a brick incident, plus community notices including marriages and local events.
Sand Spring News notes weekend visits by Berna Feltes of Davenport and Laura Mae Feltes of Dubuque to Davenport families. Visitors include Ray Chaplin and Clifford Batchelder couples, Frank Grant at Bernard, Leo O Rourke and Kirby households, Ralph Lahey at Feltes home, Nelson Freeze in Delhi, and Donald Rickels' graduation. Additionally Cyril Albany visited Mark McDonald in Anamosa, and Bernard socializing continued Sunday.
