Feed Lawn Crowd Out Weeds in Iowa Gardens
W T Stoutemeyer from Iowa State College outlines a lawn care plan to start grass early and suppress weeds. Use ammonium sulfate, about five pounds per 1,000 sq ft, with frequent light applications and even distribution. Mix with ashes or dirt, wash leaves after applying, and follow a spring and early autumn fertilizing schedule. Kentucky bluegrass recommended with red top as nurse crop. Dutch white clover aids dry periods. A 1,000 sq ft seed mix of three and a half pounds advised for dense turf and weed resistance.
