Tragic Train Crash Near Langworthy Injures Farmer
Garret Moncke a Wayne township farmer narrowly escaped death when a Chicago and Omaha main line train struck his wagon at Langworthy. His horses were killed and the wagon demolished while the engine blew bells and the sleeper derailed. Moncke survived with fright, taken to Anamosa then home. Also reported: Mary Ann Yousee of Richland township died of lung fever aged 66. An operatic production of Pinafore drew a large crowd at the opera house raising about 90 dollars for the Congregational church building fund, with another 30 dollars added the next night. The fair circus tax dispute with the Jones County Fair Association ended with a refund of 92.67 after protest and intervention by officials in Washington.
