Monticello Finishes Fourth at Eastern Iowa Conference Meet
Rain delayed events at Monticello as the Eastern Iowa Seven conference track meet wrapped Saturday on a muddy Coe College oval. Monticello scored 17 points to place fourth behind Iowa City, Tipton, and West Liberty. Yeoman led Monticello with a 28.7 in the 220 yard low hurdles and a second in the century. Phillips of University High dominated several events, setting new conference marks in javelin and the quarter, aiding his team’s victory. Public notices follow with installation services and community events listed for Onslow and nearby towns.

Sow Alfalfa In June Or July For Best Stand
Farmers are advised to seed alfalfa in June or early July after fallowing five to eight weeks in spring to kill weeds. Roll seedbeds after sowing, avoid mid July dry spells, and aim for early August seeding when following small grains. If too dry, delay until spring. Summer seedings after mid August risk winter kill. On cornstalk or clean grain stubble, disk rather than plow. Broadcast seed or drill shallowly and cover only to moist soil.
