Iowa Pioneer Beem Dies at 73 in Dayton
Dayton news records the death of Wickliffe C. Beem aged 73 who died after an apoplexy illness. He moved to the county in 1855 and settled near Lehigh. In 1875 he opened the Black Diamond coal mine at Lehigh and ran it for more than two decades before later entering the clay manufacturing business.
