Dedicate Chapel At Reformatory In Anamosa
A new Catholic chapel was dedicated Saturday April 27 at the Iowa men's reformatory in Anamosa with Most Rev Leo Binz archbishop of Dubuque presiding. The 10 25 a m procession led to a 200 seat chapel where 24 inmates received confirmation and a Pontifical Mass followed. The former chapel space will serve as a school room and house Lutheran services. An organ donated by the state Knights of Columbus funded the project. Rev Cyril F Engler has been the reformatory's chaplain since August 1956.

Five-Year Suspended Term Amid Embezzlement Case
Jones County district court heard several cases as the April term panel was excused. James Fangman received five years at hard labor for embezzlement with a suspended sentence and parole. appeal bond set at $2,000. Jones County stands among seven rural Iowa counties where a city of 2 500 to 5 000 residents anchors industry. The Iowa Business Digest notes 33 counties show 16 percent manufacturing job growth from 1947 to 1954, equal to state average, with Jones at 351 industrial payroll workers in 1954.

Sacred Heart Students Win National Music Honors
Sacred Heart piano students earned high honors in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians auditioned in Dupage on April 24. Elizabeth Newman judged. Top local performers included Jeryl Castonguay 94.14 percent and Linda Clark 92 percent. national honors went to Janice Clement and Beverly Parker at 94 percent and Helen Schnier 93.44 percent. Certificates and pins to be awarded at the May recital.

A state audit of Jones county offices for 1955 and 1956, conducted by John Hornung and Ray Fletcher from Des Moines, found overall balanced books. Minor posting errors in the board of supervisors, auditor, treasurer, clerk of court, and county attorney were corrected by transfers or collections. No errors were found in sheriff, county superintendent, recorder, engineer, coroner, assessor, or county home records.

Poock to Be Honored At Iowa State Veishea
Poock Gary Poock of Monticello is among 20 Iowa high school seniors selected for Veishea Career Day at Iowa State College on May 17. Three scholarships will be awarded: 700 dollars, 200 dollars, and 100 dollars. Selection will be by a committee including the ISU student body president and Veishea chairmen.

Oxford Jet Man Takes Own Life
Funeral services for Charles Straka age 57 were set for Friday at 1 30 p m at Hayden Funeral home in Oxford Junction. Straka was found dead Tuesday evening in a barn at his home his death was ruled suicide. He had suffered an injury from a car accident last year. A bachelor he lived alone after his father’s death. Survivors include brothers Joe and Otto and several nieces and nephews.
