De Vere Barger son of Morris Barger former Watkins dealer was injured in a car truck collision in Daytona Beach. A semi struck Barger's car broadside. he was admitted to a local hospital with hip injuries facial cuts and a head concussion. He is recovering.

Monticello public school junior high presents The Adventures of Tom Sawyer an operetta to be staged April 2 matinee and April 3 evening in the high school auditorium. Tickets range 60 cents adults 35 cents older students 25 cents younger students. Director Joe Noble and teachers lead a large cast with Gary Duckler as Tom and Diana Howie Becky Thatcher.
Iowa City reporters report State University of Iowa researchers will interview parents of normal children in Anamosa and nearby towns to study how home environment affects cleft lip and palate children. The first phase interviewed 175 affected children and their parents. phase two seeks 175 matching normal children. Participants receive ten dollars plus transportation for some interviews, with follow ups planned in Sigourney and Oskaloosa.
Oxford Junction the 40th anniversary of the American Legion prompts Wapsie Post 473 to host a get-together and dinner honoring 40-year members. The post now has 155 members after starting with 14 charter members.
Ten young members of St. Matthew Lutheran church completed confirmation and took their stand for Christ by the Rite of Confirmation Sunday. The group includes Sara Null Mary Copley Jane Hetzler Joel Hetzler Michael Plueger Sandra Stutt Janice Martensen Marjorie McChristy Betty Hinrichs and Robert Behrends. Janice Martensen was ill and will be confirmed privately when well.
Carl Egger of Iowa City was honored with a military scholarship medal and an advanced leadership ribbon at the University of Iowa Army ROTC awards event. 130 cadets received recognition for military and scholastic achievements during the ceremony led by Dean Walter Loehwing and Professor Paul Brechler.
Richard O. Hartwig, chairman of the Jones County A.S.C. committee, warns farmers with land in the soil bank to fully comply with acreage allotments and base crop rules. Exceeding permitted land or any allotment can cost annual rental payments and incur civil penalties. If all cropland is in the soil bank the permitted acreage is zero. Farmers uncertain about rules should contact the county A.S.C. office in Monticello.
E W Phend of Wyoming has an outstanding Holstein production record. Echo Fobes Posch yielded 17 627 pounds of milk and 708 pounds of butterfat in 365 days with twice daily milking at age seven. Iowa State College and the Holstein association supervised the HLR testing under the Herd Improvement Registry program.
A young doe was struck and killed instantly three miles east of Wyoming while a driving student, Terry Chandler, piloted a 1959 Plymouth for a Wyo ming Driver's Training Auto. The deer leaped into the road from the Lee Williams farm area. the grill and radiator were damaged, and the sheriff and Anamosa Reformatory officials collected the carcass after Adra Lane bled it.
Cadet H Allen White of Monticello Iowa received a high school swimming letter at Wentworth Military Academy. The award was approved by the Wentworth Athletic Council on coach recommendation and presented Friday at a student convocation in Memorial Chapel.
