Ruth Swafford of Tallapoosa sent two old Monticello pictures and a Nov 7 1988 letter by CG A Coxsee former Monticello Express publisher to Miss Minnie Sleeper asking for a reminiscing article about Monticello’s early telephone days. The package also honors two former residents Minnie Sleeper and Maude Sleeper Gilmore.
Specialist Third Class Grant Adamson age 29, wife Beverly of route 2 Monticello, took part in a field training exercise with the 518th transportation company in Germany. He joined the army in 1954, last stationed at Fort Knox, arrived in Europe in December 1957, and attended Monticello High School. In civilian life he worked as a prison guard at the state reformatory Anamosa. His parents, Mr and Mrs Clayton Adamson, live in Monticello.
Area boys eight and older may attend the Dubuque Y Camp at a reasonable cost. Located northwest of Dubuque the camp spans over 100 acres and features North Woods adventure opportunities for youth in a wooded hillside setting.
The State Conservation commission on March 11 approved minor changes to fishing regulations. Largemouth and smallmouth bass season dates run May 24 to February 15 north of highway 20, with continuous open season south of highway 30. Other bass rules remain unchanged.
The state adopts a continuous open season with no catch or possession limits for channel catfish and northern pike in boundary waters of Iowa. Boundary waters include the Mississippi and Missouri rivers and inland waters of Lee county. Other 1958 rules stay in force. A conservation commission administrative order detailing the new regulations will be issued shortly.
