The U S Senate in an extra session received Massachusetts senate resolutions supporting Hawaii annexation and laid them on the table. President Cleveland sent numerous appointments including William McAdoo as assistant secretary of the navy and Edward O B Whitney as assistant attorney general.
A long list of urban disasters and deaths is reported including a Eureka Springs blaze destroying between fifty and sixty lower‑income homes, heavy losses from fires in Toledo and Oswego, and multiple fatal incidents across Tennessee and Alabama amid a broad page of 1890s incidents such as ship arrivals, political actions, and crime.
A Pittsburgh conference of ministers and prohibitionists outlined a platform praising God as author of civil government and endorsing equal rights regardless of race color or sex. It calls for abolition of the drink traffic and other moral economic and industrial reforms. Notable names include Mrs Frances Hitler of Boston who married her coachman Peter Surrett. Several deaths are noted including Henderson Saira age 119 and Capt Danes Surrm Harris age 85.

A senate bill by Senator Butker would require that appropriations, except for specific bills, be considered by the relevant committees. No action was taken on the measure. Republican picks mirror the slate naming chairs and members across all panels including Judiciary, Public Lands Railroads Territories and Pacific Railways, with Stewart removed from the Appropriations panel but remaining as minority representative on other committees.
