Mrs Minnie Dufoe longtime Hopkinton resident marks her 87th birthday. Born Minnie Bacon March 13 1869 in Grove Creek Delaware County she married Evan Dufoe in 1889. She moved to Hopkinton in 1920 and lives alone since 1940. Her hobbies include piecing and embroidery with 50 and 95 quilts made respectively. She has three children 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Construction crews wrap up repairs on the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul line with finishing work completed. Officials announce the milestone signals resumed service and safety upgrades for passengers and freight along the corridor.
The railroad finished four weeks of pil ing work and reinforcements on the Plum creek bridge one mile north of Hopkinton and returned to Marion on Friday. Conductor Lawrence Martin of Marion led the work train, a longtime C M and St Paul Railroad employee. He recalled childhood days near Hopkinton and visiting old friends during the project. His father, Lester Martin, was a former Hopkinton resident.
Airman 3c William Hucker has finished basic training in California and is spending a 10 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Don Hucker and relatives. He is assigned to the finance division and will travel to Louisiana for business training and use of IBM machines.
The American Legion auxiliary met Tuesday evening at the Legion hall with President Mrs. Don L. Smith in charge. Mrs. Elva Gienapp reported on the veterans party at the Independence Mental Institute. Mrs. Lena Reggentine served as hostess.

Mrs. Charles Wolfe has returned home to Hopkinton from Mercy hospital Dubuque after a four week hospitalization following a two car accident near Ryan. She uses a wheelchair and was accompanied by her mother Mrs J P Grieff to make arrangements.
A resident returns from ten days in hospital to live with her brother while care is provided by Mrs. Earl Gillilan. Several locals travel to Lincoln for a Girl Scout presidents conference.Dubbed visitors from Dubuque Evansdale and Waterloo families visit Monticello and Cedar Rapids area hospitals and homes. WWI veteran George Williamson remains hospitalized in Iowa City with a foot infection.
The U Go club held a potluck luncheon at Mrs. Jeanine Parker's home on St Patrick's Day March 17. New officers were elected with Mrs Emma Smith as president Mrs Alice Wall as vice president Mrs Pauline Lamont as secretary Miss Jessie Keith as treasurer and Mrs Pearl Bryan as reporter. Attending a Bible Institute at First Presbyterian Independence March 12 were Rev and Mrs R Grupp Mr and Mrs Harlan Johnston Mrs Myrtle Talmadge Mrs Eleanor Dunlap Bernice Le Clerc and Virginia Williamson. Mr and Mrs Claire Wheeless and daughters Jody Louise and Jill Diane of Cedar Rapids were weekend guests honored for Claire and his wife's March 19 birthdays. Mrs Ernest Garlick entered University hospital Iowa City Saturday for medical care and observation. She has diabetes and complications and has been nearly blind for three years. Mr and Mrs Gene Cross Roger and Pamela were weekend guests at Leonard Miller's Cedar Falls home.
A 14 year old from Fort Dodge stole five automobiles during a single evening, wrecking one vehicle. He was captured after being picked up while hitchhiking.
